Location: This position will float between the Bees Ferry Express Care and the Johns Island Express Care.

Shift: Clinic is open 8am-8pm Sunday to Sunday. Shift will be three 12 hours shifts with rotating weekends.

Job Summary:

Greets, instructs, directs and schedules patients and family members. Work with all patients to schedule appointments that best meet their needs. Assist patients with the selection of a primary care clinician stressing the importance of continuity with a primary care clinician. Receptionist will accurately handle prescription requests, medical chart information, schedule referrals with other physician offices and ensure that insurance referrals are made if required. Answers the telephone and directs calls to the appropriate party. The receptionist must be pleasant at all times, well-groomed and able to multi-task without showing stress to the public. The receptionist should coordinate care with other care team members to provide exceptional patient service. The receptionist is responsible for collecting copayments and deductibles at the time of service and accurately posting CPT and ICD-9 codes and their associated charges and payments in the computer; balancing same with the computer printout at the end of the day and preparing the daily deposit. Receptionist should be proficient with the Practice Management System and the Electronic Health Record system.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or GED

Experience: At least one year in a medical office strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills: Strong patient-centered focus. Effective verbal and written communications skills. Ability to work as part of a clinical team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public. Ability to organize and manage competing priorities. Ability to problem solve and show good judgment. Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems and ability to key data into medical computer system accurately. Must be able to balance charges and payments to end of day reports.

Contacts: Physicians, coworkers and patients. Contact involves dealing with sick people and servicing a patient population from birth to end of life.

Work Demands/Environment: Work is performed in reception area. Involves frequent contact with patients. Intermittent standing. Intermittent walking. Intermittent sitting. May require lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs. Intermittent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent use of finger/hand dexterity. Frequent reaching with hands/arms. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Normal medical office environment. Ability to read and comprehend. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Potential for long or extended hours and a variable schedule.
