Lumos & Associates is seeking highly motivated Materials Technician Interns to join our Construction Division for the 2027 summer internship program.
The Materials Technician Intern will support construction materials testing and inspection activities while gaining hands-on experience in both field and laboratory environments. This seasonal position provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced technicians, inspectors, engineers, and construction managers while learning how construction materials and field conditions are evaluated for compliance with project plans and specifications. This position will work full-time from mid-May through mid-August 2027. Due to the nature of construction work and the busy summer season, overtime should be expected and may vary based on project schedules and field needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with field and laboratory testing of construction materials.
- Visit construction sites and observe and/or perform testing to determine whether results meet requirements identified in project plans and specifications.
- Learn to read, understand, and interpret construction plans and geotechnical reports.
- Assist with laboratory data entry using geotechnical software, Microsoft Excel, and other applicable programs.
- Learn applicable standards and codes related to construction materials testing and inspection.
- Assist with reports, calculations, documentation, and other construction-related project tasks.
- Gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Lumos Field Technicians, Field Inspectors, Construction Managers, and engineers.
- Participate in project meetings, construction site visits, and other field activities as appropriate.
- Gain exposure to multiple civil engineering disciplines and collaborate with professionals across Construction, Engineering, Structural, and Survey.
Requirements
- Student enrolled in a college or university degree program related to Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time during the internship period from mid-May through mid-August 2027, including overtime as required by project schedules and field conditions.
- Ability and willingness to work in both field and laboratory environments.
- Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work hours necessary to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or fewer demerit points.
