ABOUT PARAMETRIC
Parametric is part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, the asset management division of Morgan Stanley. We partner with advisors, institutions, and consultants to build portfolios focused on what's important to them and their clients. A leader in custom solutions for more than 30 years, we help investors access efficient market exposures, solve implementation challenges, and design multi-asset portfolios that respond to their evolving needs. We also offer systematic alpha and alternative strategies to complement clients' core holdings.

This role is part of Parametric's hybrid working model, which includes working in the office 3 days a week and choosing to work remotely or in the office the remaining days of the week.

ABOUT THE TEAM
The Accounting Platforms team at Parametric:

  • Is accountable for the reliability and strategic evolution of the accounting platforms Parametric's investment business depends on - a portfolio of vendor-provided, third-party systems alongside one platform built and maintained internally by Parametric engineering teams.
  • Ensures the accounting platforms support the full breadth of the business: equities, fixed income, options, and derivatives, across both domestic and international investment strategies.
  • Owns these platforms end to end: operational health and vendor relationships on one side, and the software that integrates them on the other.
  • Is leading a multi-year initiative to align accounting capabilities with Radius, Parametric's strategic platform, so the business operates on vendor-neutral workflows and services.
  • Works directly with business leaders, solution managers, accounting data consumers, and hundreds of platform users, because the change it is delivering is as much a change to business workflow as it is to software.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Accounting Platforms team is accountable for the operation, stability, and strategic evolution of Parametric's accounting systems. The Manager, Software Engineering will lead the engineering team responsible for these platforms - owning delivery, operations, and people leadership across a portfolio that spans platform reliability, business-as-usual demand, and a multi-year modernization initiative. Parametric's business is growing quickly, and the manager is accountable for ensuring the accounting platforms scale to match - supporting higher transaction volumes and data throughput efficiently and without sacrificing reliability.

This is a hands-on technical delivery leadership position - a management role that stays close to the technical detail, engaged in options, design review, and platform behavior, rather than serving as the team's expert engineer. The role leads the discovery and organizational change that alignment requires, and it is accountable for the two engineering capabilities on which it depends: making high-value accounting datasets available to the business consumers who need them, and the Radius Accounting Service, whose APIs and Kafka interfaces expose accounting capability in Parametric's own trade and transaction language rather than any accounting platform's.

This role requires a leader who can establish direction, build alignment across business and technology stakeholders, and drive execution across a portfolio of operational, strategic, and technology initiatives.  Success depends on balancing platform stability, operational risk, business priorities, and long-term modernization efforts. The role partners closely with a Principal Software Engineer who provides architectural leadership and technical direction, and together they guide technology decisions, delivery priorities, and platform evolution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivery and portfolio

  • Own a single visible, prioritized portfolio spanning platform operations, BAU demand, and strategic transition, and hold the trade-offs between them.
  • Own the intake-to-delivery process - sizing, decision rights, stakeholder commitment, and delivery reporting - and keep it fit for purpose as demand changes.

Platform operations

  • Own the operational health of the accounting platforms: reliability, monitoring and alerting, runbooks, incident response and review, known-risk tracking, and escalation paths both internally and to vendors.
  • Serve as Primary IT System Owner for the accounting platforms, including data lifecycle management, access controls, audit support, and business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Own the working vendor relationships for the vendor-provided and vendor-hosted accounting platforms: escalation, upgrade planning, and service expectations.
  • Be accountable for the accounting outcomes Parametric depends on and for escalation when those outcomes are at risk.
  • Ensure the accounting platforms scale efficiently to meet Parametric's growing transaction volumes and data throughput requirements.
  • Build and sustain subject-matter depth in how Parametric uses each accounting platform: integration points, data-extraction paths, operational dependencies, and failure modes.

Accounting capability in Radius

  • Own the Radius Accounting Service: the APIs and Kafka interfaces that map Parametric’s business domain concepts onto each accounting platform’s integration model, so consumers work in business language rather than accounting-system detail.
  • Own the design of high-value accounting data products; partner with automation teams to build the extraction pipelines, and monitor them as supported products with agreed quality, timeliness, and performance expectations.
  • Own integration between the accounting platforms and Radius in both directions: data flowing into the accounting platforms, and accounting capability surfaced through the Radius Accounting Service.

Strategic transition

  • Lead the sustained alignment of accounting workflows with Radius: workflow discovery with the business, agreement on target-state use, readiness criteria, delivery, and adoption.
  • Partner with business leaders and solution managers to hold a current, viable transition path for accounting workflows, and revise it as the platforms and the business change.
  • Keep the transition sequenced against operational continuity, so alignment advances without putting business outcomes at risk.

People

  • Manage, develop, and grow the team: establishing clear expectations, coaching, career development, hiring, onboarding, and succession planning, including deliberate reduction of single-person knowledge dependencies.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Primary Skills

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing software engineers.
  • Working knowledge of AI capabilities and practical approaches to applying them in engineering organizations.
  • Experience leading a technical team through a multi-stakeholder platform build or modernization effort that included business-process change, not only software change.
  • Ability to effectively operate across business process transformation, operational risk management, software delivery, and technology architecture.
  • Sufficient hands-on engineering depth to participate in design review and technical trade-off discussions.
  • Has been accountable for the uptime and operational health of a production system, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new domains quickly, establish direction, and make informed decisions when information, requirements or priorities are evolving. Establishes productive, professional relationships with senior individual contributors while constructively challenging technical assumptions and approaches.
  • People management experience including performance management, development planning, and hiring.
  • Experience scaling a platform's capacity and throughput to keep pace with rapid business growth, while maintaining efficiency and reliability.

Preferred Skills

  • Investment accounting or financial services domain experience; familiarity with portfolio accounting platforms such as Advent APX or comparable systems.
  • Experience owning a vendor-provided or vendor-hosted platform, including vendor escalation and upgrade management.
  • Experience delivering data products consumed by business teams under agreed accuracy, timeliness, and performance commitments.
  • Experience decomposing dependencies on a legacy system into an incremental, business-approved transition program.
  • Experience leading teams building cloud-native services (AWS preferred), including CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
