  • Oversee performance management of all programs, including mentorship and training and development.
  • Act as the primary local authority on CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP), when Managing Editor is unavailable, ensuring all stories meet the core tenets of accuracy, fairness, balance, and integrity.
  • Provide real-time counsel on complex journalistic questions, including legal risks (defamation, publication bans), ethical dilemmas, and sensitive interviews.
  • Serve as the final escalation point in the newsroom for breaking, highly sensitive, or controversial local stories, coordinating with CBC Legal and network leadership when necessary.
  • Help navigate audience complaints or corrections transparently, upholding CBC’s accountability to the public

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 10 years' related experience, including experience leading in a newsroom
  • A track record of guiding complex journalistic decision making
  • Experience managing staff and resources within budgetary constraints
  • Experience leading the application of journalistic standards and practices in a daily newsroom setting
  • An ongoing interest in and understanding of media trends as they apply to a multiplatform newsroom
