Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as an Manager Manufacturing Operations 3​ based out of Sunnyvale, CA.

What you'll get to do:

Lead the Machine Maintenance organization and responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, maintainability, and safe operation of manufacturing equipment and infrastructure supporting production operations. Some details:

  • Provide leadership and direction to a multidisciplinary maintenance organization consisting of front-line managers, engineers, analysts, planners/schedulers, mechanics, electricians, lubrication personnel, and other technical support functions operating across multiple shifts.

  • Establish and execute the Machine Maintenance strategy focused on equipment uptime, preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), reliability engineering, and reduction of planned and unplanned downtime.

  • Develop, monitor, and communicate key maintenance and reliability performance indicators, including equipment uptime, PM compliance, MTBF, MTTR, planned versus unplanned downtime, recurring failure trends, and equipment health.

  • Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities for significant or recurring equipment failures and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented to improve long-term equipment reliability.

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Environmental Health & Safety, Global Supply Chain, Facilities, and Program leadership to prioritize maintenance activities and minimize production disruption.

  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance strategies using equipment history, condition-monitoring data, OEM recommendations, failure trends, and reliability principles to transition the organization from reactive to proactive maintenance.

  • Lead implementation and sustainment of TPM principles, including planned maintenance, equipment condition monitoring, standardized maintenance practices, operator engagement, continuous improvement, and elimination of chronic equipment losses.

  • Provide leadership for the commissioning, installation, acceptance, sustainment, modernization, relocation, and decommissioning of manufacturing assets, ensuring appropriate maintenance strategies and spare-parts requirements are established throughout the equipment lifecycle.

  • Manage critical manufacturing equipment recovery efforts by coordinating internal technical teams, OEMs, suppliers, and other stakeholders to establish repair strategies, recovery schedules, return-to-operation dates, and risk mitigation plans.

  • Establish and maintain a strategic spare-parts and obsolescence management program for critical manufacturing equipment, including identification of long-lead, obsolete, and single-source components.

  • Manage OEM and supplier relationships supporting equipment maintenance, repair, calibration, technical services, spare parts, and equipment modernization; evaluate technical recommendations, quotations, schedules, and supplier performance.

  • Develop business cases and technical recommendations supporting capital equipment replacement, refurbishment, modernization, and reliability investments based on equipment condition, failure history, production risk, lifecycle cost, obsolescence, and return on investment.

  • Drive adoption of digital maintenance, including CMMS, automated equipment monitoring, condition-based maintenance, machine connectivity, dashboards, sensor technologies, remote diagnostics, and data analytics.

  • Ensure maintenance activities, work orders, service reports, equipment history, inspections, and corrective actions are accurately documented within Maintenance Connection, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Develop annual operating plans, staffing requirements, budgets, capital investment priorities, service contracts, and maintenance strategies aligned with manufacturing and business objectives.

  • Manage maintenance labor, material, OEM service, spare-parts, and capital expenditures while identifying opportunities to improve cost effectiveness without compromising equipment reliability or operational readiness.

  • Provide executive-level reporting on equipment uptime, significant downtime events, reliability risks, recovery actions, maintenance performance, resource requirements, and improvement initiatives.

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain technical and leadership talent while establishing succession plans and building organizational capability in maintenance, reliability engineering, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration while ensuring compliance with Northrop Grumman policies, regulatory requirements, and applicable environmental and safety standards.

  • Lead and collaborate effectively in a represented/union workforce environment, partnering with labor representatives and company leadership to support safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance operations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8-years of relevant experience within Maintenance Management. One of the following technical fields: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related technical discipline with relevant experience. (four additional years if experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)

  • A minimum of 5-years’ experience leading and managing preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, reliability, or equipment uptime programs. Lead team consisting of both technical members and direct mechanical / electrical personnel. 

  • Experience supporting CNC machine tools, automated manufacturing equipment, industrial electrical/mechanical systems, or other complex capital equipment.

  • Experience analyzing equipment performance and failure data and translate findings into corrective actions, investment priorities, and business recommendations.

  • Experience managing budgets, suppliers, OEM technical services, contracts, spare parts, or capital equipment projects.

  • US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related discipline.

  • Experience managing maintenance operations within a represented-union workforce environment.

  • Experience implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems/Enterprise Asset Management platforms and development of maintenance performance dashboards and equipment reliability analytics.

  • Experience with Mean Time Between Failure, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, equipment uptime, Preventive Maintenance compliance, failure-mode analysis, Pareto analysis, Root Cause Corrective Action, and planned versus unplanned downtime.

  • Experience implementing predictive and condition-based maintenance technologies, including vibration monitoring, oil analysis, thermal monitoring, machine sensors, PLC/controller data acquisition, and equipment health analytics.

  • Experience developing capital investment business cases for machine replacement, modernization, refurbishment, and reliability improvements.

Primary Level Salary Range: $159,500.00 - $239,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
