About the Role:
Motive is seeking a hands-on Manager of Hardware Reliability Engineering to lead the Taipei-based reliability team, define reliability strategy across the product lifecycle, and partner globally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and product teams to turn field insights and data into more robust connected-device products.
What You’ll Do:
- Set reliability strategy and direction by defining the multi-quarter hardware reliability strategy, team goals, success metrics, and ownership model, translating ambiguous risks into actionable plans, and representing Hardware Reliability in design, launch, and leadership forums.
- Drive reliability across the product lifecycle by partnering across Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Systems, Product, and TPM to define requirements, test plans, qualification coverage, and exit criteria, and leading failure-mode analysis, design-for-reliability reviews, reliability growth, and risk-based decisions from concept through sustaining.
- Improve field and production quality by connecting design validation, manufacturing data, returns, support signals, and field failures to drive root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and data-informed improvements to process capability, supplier quality, test coverage, and product robustness.
- Build and develop the team by hiring, coaching, retaining, and developing a high-performing Taipei-based reliability engineering team while establishing scalable standards, documentation, and review mechanisms, planning resources, and removing execution bottlenecks.
- Influence globally by building trusted partnerships across Taipei, San Francisco, India, and other global teams, communicating technical trade-offs clearly, aligning stakeholders across cost, schedule, quality, and reliability, and championing customer-back strategies.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Reliability Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in hardware reliability, product quality, validation, or systems engineering.
- Experience hiring, developing, and managing engineering reliability teams.
- Lead cross-functional reliability and quality initiatives across engineering, operations, manufacturing, and suppliers.
- Define multi-quarter reliability strategies, team goals, metrics, and operating cadences.
- Apply expertise in failure mechanisms, reliability testing, accelerated life testing, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and statistical tools.
- Develop test plans and reliability requirements for NPI/ORT based on field conditions and use cases.
- Lead DFMEA reviews, reduce design risks, drive improvements, and collaborate with global teams and Taiwan-based suppliers.
- Manage lab equipment calibration and resolve audit findings, nonconformances, and corrective actions.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with connected devices, automotive electronics, telematics, cameras, industrial equipment, consumer electronics, or other products deployed in harsh environments.
- Experience taking products from concept through design verification, NPI, production ramp, and sustaining engineering.
- Familiarity with NUDD, FRACAS, FMEA, fault-tree analysis, reliability prediction, Weibull analysis, DOE, tolerance analysis, and reliability growth planning.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and component suppliers on qualification, process capability, and corrective actions.
- Familiarity with applicable industry and environmental standards such as IEC 60068, MIL-STD-810, ISO16750 or automotive/customer-specific requirements.
