Department: Maintenance

Work Location: Transformers AR

Reports To: Plant Manager, Transformers

FLSA Status: Exempt

About CMI: Central Moloney has been a trailblazer in manufacturing distribution transformers and transformer components since 1949. Our ISO 9001-certified legacy is built on delivering top-notch products, on-time reliability, and pushing the boundaries of excellence. Join us in powering a future resonating with Central Moloney's strength.

Position Summary: The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading maintenance operations for Central Moloney's Transformer manufacturing facility, ensuring manufacturing equipment, machinery, and facility systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This position leads a team of approximately 10–15 union skilled-trades employees, including electricians and mechanics, and is accountable for preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment reliability, troubleshooting, shutdown planning, and maintenance execution.

This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing Services, Safety, and other plant leadership to minimize unplanned downtime, improve equipment performance, and support production requirements. The Maintenance Manager is expected to build a proactive maintenance culture focused on safety, accountability, planning, root-cause problem solving, and continuous improvement while effectively leading within a union manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance Leadership: Lead, schedule, develop, and provide day-to-day direction to a team of union electricians and mechanics, ensuring appropriate coverage, work prioritization, productivity, and accountability across plant maintenance activities.
  • Team Development & Structure: Build structure, accountability, and consistency within the maintenance team — including training, meeting cadence, and documentation practices — developing technicians' skills and reducing reliance on any single individual for troubleshooting.
  • Equipment Reliability: Drive equipment uptime and reliability by identifying recurring failures, leading root-cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive actions to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop, maintain, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs, ensuring PM activities are properly scheduled, completed, documented, and evaluated for effectiveness.
  • Maintenance Planning & Execution: Coordinate planned maintenance, emergency repairs, equipment shutdowns, and maintenance projects with Operations to minimize production disruption and ensure resources are effectively utilized.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Provide leadership and technical support for complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, controls, and manufacturing equipment issues, engaging internal technical resources and outside vendors when necessary.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with company safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, machine guarding, PPE, and applicable OSHA and regulatory standards.
  • Union Workforce Leadership: Manage employees in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, company policies, and established work practices while partnering with Human Resources and plant leadership on employee relations, performance, attendance, and workforce matters.
  • Continuous Improvement: Establish and monitor maintenance performance measures such as equipment downtime, PM completion, repeat failures, response time, and maintenance backlog; use data to identify trends and drive measurable improvement.
  • Projects & Asset Management: Support equipment installations, upgrades, capital projects, commissioning, and facility improvements while ensuring maintainability, reliability, spare-parts requirements, and long-term equipment needs are considered.
  • Parts & Cost Management: Maintain appropriate critical spare-parts inventory, manage maintenance supplies and outside services, support budget planning, and identify opportunities to control maintenance costs without compromising safety or equipment reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent combination of technical education and progressive manufacturing maintenance experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience, including previous responsibility for leading skilled-trades employees.
  • Experience supervising electricians, mechanics, millwrights, or other industrial maintenance trades in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience managing employees in a union environment and working within a collective bargaining agreement preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical and mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, PLC-controlled equipment, and manufacturing machinery.
  • Demonstrated experience with preventive/predictive maintenance programs, CMMS systems, equipment troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvement.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and industrial maintenance safety practices, including LOTO and electrical safety.
  • Strong leadership, planning, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to establish priorities and respond effectively to changing production and equipment needs.
  • Lean/Continuous Improvement background a plus!

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, climb, crouch, reach, and move throughout a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to safely access manufacturing equipment and maintenance areas, including elevated or confined work areas as required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as necessary.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to inspect equipment, review technical information, and safely navigate manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety-toe footwear, and other PPE as required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, elevated noise levels, oils, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Regular presence on the manufacturing floor is required to support employees, troubleshoot equipment issues, and monitor maintenance activities.
  • Must be able to respond to urgent equipment failures and changing production priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Position may require work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, scheduled shutdowns, and emergency call-ins based on operational needs.
  • Must comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
