Job Description Summary

Help build the future of flight
If you’re a skilled machinist who takes pride in precision work, solving problems at the machine, and holding tight tolerances on critical hardware, this is the kind of role built for you.

GE Aerospace is looking for an experienced CNC Machinist - 2nd Shift to support advanced aerospace manufacturing. In this role, you’ll perform independent setups, operation, troubleshooting, and in-process inspection on CNC turning and grinding equipment used to produce critical engine components. You’ll work in a highly technical environment where quality and safety matter every day.

This is a great opportunity for a machinist who wants to do more than just load parts - someone who can own setups, understand the process, make smart adjustments, and help drive performance on the floor.

Job Description

What you’ll do:

As a CNC Machinist, you’ll be a hands-on technical resource responsible for producing aerospace hardware to print and process requirements. Responsibilities include:

CNC Setup and Machining

  • Perform independent setups on CNC lathes, turning centers, and grinding equipment, including work holding, tooling, offsets, and first-piece validation

  • Operate CNC and grinding equipment, monitor process performance, and make approved adjustments to maintain quality and dimensional control

  • Verify wheel/tool selection, dress grinding wheels, and monitor tool wear, wheel wear, part growth, and other conditions affecting process capability

Blueprint Reading, Process Control, and Inspection

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, routers, specifications, GD&T, and inspection requirements

  • Understand and machine to dimensional requirements such as runout, concentricity, profile, surface finish, and tight tolerances

  • Make minor G-code edits as authorized and perform in-process/final inspection using precision measuring tools

  • Document inspection results and validate first-piece acceptance to requirements

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

  • Identify and address machining issues such as chatter, taper, lobing, burn, size drift, and runout

  • Stop work and escalate nonconformances when required

  • Support containment, corrective actions, and collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to improve process stability and performance

Documentation, Traceability, and Continuous Improvement

  • Complete production, quality, and system documentation accurately while maintaining part traceability and lot control

  • Support first article inspection, documentation and required work order transactions

  • Participate in kaizen and continuous improvement efforts to reduce scrap, rework, and cycle time

  • Support standard work, 5S, continuous improvement, and routine operator maintenance including cleaning and coolant checks

What we’re looking for:

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or vocational school certificate

  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with CNC turning and/or grinding, including the ability to perform independent machine setups

  • Proven ability to machine parts to tight tolerances with experience using precision measurement tools and recording inspection results to specification

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T

  • This role may encounter high risk or hazardous operations and/or include working shifts beyond a standard workweek. As such, a requirement of the role is to be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing

  • Experience working in controlled manufacturing environments with strict documentation and traceability requirements

  • Experience machining precision aerospace components

  • Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI), including AS9102

  • Experience machining advanced materials such as ceramic composites

  • Experience with 3-axis and 5-axis vertical and horizontal machining centers

  • Experience with multi-axis turning centers and complex workholding

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to process improvement

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
