The MA, Media Studies program is seeking motivated and detail-oriented Event Support student workers to support the ongoing coordination and management of the MA Media Studies program-led and student-led events. This includes support for FINE CUTS student showcase, RUFF CUTS monthly events, SPEAKING OF MEDIA, CRITICAL THEMES, MEDIA WORKS! Alumni Spotlight, HIRSHON ARTIST IN RESIDENCE events, and any additional ad hoc events.
The event support students will work with the event point people and faculty coordinator(s) as well as the MA, Program Director to support public-facing events, managing communications, facilitating the run of the show, and adhering to budget as appropriate. The position provides an opportunity for a student with demonstrated interest in event production and/or with professional skills in event organizing and program administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Schedule and hold weekly meetings, either in person or via Zoom with events team organizers and events team
Be present at all scheduled events.
Liaise among all students contributing to events, faculty event point people, and MA Director.
Design, print, and distribute promotional posters and digital outreach materials including social media in cooperation with student Comms assistant.
Organize and maintain events archives, including arranging video recordings as necessary.
Support faculty producers of events in all aspects of event organizing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current graduate student in good standing at The New School with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Must be within the time limit for attaining their graduate degree.
Must not have more than 33% of attempted course credits as incomplete.
Must not be employed at The New School as administrative staff.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated interest in media programming and event production.
Solid technical skills in recording and editing audio/video content.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience producing events or assisting in public programming.
Design skills for print and digital media.
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-DNI
Hourly Rate: $20.00/hr, max 75 hours per semester/5hrs a week.
