BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES

The Cleveland Board of Education adopted the Building Brighter Futures (BBF) initiative on December 9, 2025. Building Brighter Futures is a strategic and data-driven plan shaped by more than a year of community engagement, information analysis, and thoughtful deliberation. The goal of this plan is to strengthen enrollment and ensure scholars attend a newer school building that offers more educational opportunities, including algebra in the eighth grade, more sports and extracurricular activities, and college credits and college and career pathways in high school. BBF is ensuring academic excellence so every CMSD scholar can thrive.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Pay Rate: $ 14.17 an hour

Ensure that children and adults are treated courteously and in a customer-service-oriented manner. Perform tasks in a manner meeting all operational standards of School Nutrition Services which adhere to all federal, state, city laws and District policies and regulations for health and safety compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receive direction from the Director, Area Supervisor or Assistant/Acting Lunchroom Manager
• Assist children in opening packages as needed
• Encourage children to eat lunch and to try new items and/or items with which they may be unfamiliar
• Assist children in disposing of refuse
• Floors are to be spot swept/mopped for spills as needed
• Tables are to be washed after each serving period or when spills occur
• Perform detailed cleaning of tables as necessary
• Perform related duties as required or any other duties which may assist in the overall operation of the cafeteria

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma, GED or a minimum of 5 years of food service experience is required
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications including Workday software and Outlook 
• Experience working in Food Service  
• Experience working with children preferred 

• Good attendance, punctuality and work record in previous employment 
• Strong interpersonal skills

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to frequently lift up to 35 pounds.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Must climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and bend.
• Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
• Requires visual acuity and the ability to hear clearly and communicate with managers, coworkers, and guests.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a normal school environment.
