THE JOB

We are seeking a General Manager to lead a local team of music lovers at Steelhead PDX, the next destination for live music and events in Portland, Oregon. Located near the waterfront in an area known for creativity and with easy access to all parts of town and a capacity of 3,500 guests, Steelhead aims to become a hub of this vibrant community.

The successful leader will oversee business operations, ensuring that the venue and all related matters operate within the scope of Live Nation standards, policies and procedures.  

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO

• Build a team of music lovers who create a safe environment for guests to enjoy some of the world’s best artists and events
• Create and maintain relationships with neighbors, city officials, and community leaders
• Establish and maintain high standards of service for guests, staff, artists, and vendors
• Combine company’s best practices and local creativity to identify and maximize revenue drivers while optimizing the guest and artist experience
• Work closely with the Portland talent team and national promoters to deliver best in class experiences to artists and crews while maintaining a local identity.
• Collaborate with national and local teams to ensure that the Marketing, Premium Seat Sales, Food and Beverage, and Sponsorship groups create innovative offerings that create incredible fan experiences that drive incremental revenue growth, engagement, and profitability
• Oversee implementation of food and beverage and merchandise performance and strategies (point of sale ratio, variety, etc.)
• Hire, train and schedule full and part-time employees, and work closely with any subcontractors and/or third-party vendors so they are prepared to create once in a lifetime fan experiences
• Oversee venue operations team to coordinate and facilitate event set-up and event activities
• Maximize venue usage through outreach to local and national organizations
• Work closely with Live Nation promoters and operations leaders and provide direction on standards and compliance concerns
• Maintain venue sustainability standards and provide necessary records for LEED operating certification
• Perform and execute financial settlement and reporting of events
• Maintain venue and event budgets and P&L projections using LN-supplied programs and tools
• Understand and model excellent working knowledge of Health & Safety and Security protocols
• Implement and comply with the company’s audit procedures
• Ensure that employee performance and attendance is monitored and reviewed
• Meet staffing and budget needs for events and overhead labor.
• Ultimately oversee all employees in the venue. This position typically supervises exempt and non-exempt positions with Live Nation directly employing operations, maintenance, production, food and beverage, cleaning, security, and guest services staff
• Day to day management of all venue vendors/subcontractors – HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Trash/Recycling and others as needed 
• Ensure that each show’s advance planning is complete, including event security and production requirements
• As Manager on Duty for most events, the GM is expected on site for each event from load in and until load out
• Any other reasonable duties as assigned or required by the executive management

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING

• Minimum 5 years experience as a general manager or operations manager in a hospitality related business
• A proven track record as a leader
• Ability to perform all job duties and responsibilities
• Requires excellent communication skills, both verbally and written
• Must have expertise in profitability analysis and budgeting
• Exhibits strong problem-solving skills in long term and immediate situations
