The Electrician ensures a safe, comfortable, and attractive healthcare environment, reflecting an attitude of help and service on behalf of the Plant Engineering Department. They undertake a variety of tasks relating to setting up and maintaining electrical infrastructure. The Electrician is responsible for installing electrical wiring in buildings and poles, troubleshooting malfunctions and blackouts, and repairing appliances. Due to the high amount of risk pertaining to this job, the Electrician must be first and foremost be a responsible individual with great attention to safety precautions. They must be experienced with different kinds of electrical devices and systems. The Electrician’s goal is to produce and maintain well-functioning electrical connections to minimize the probability of accidents and
maximize usability of electricity in all facilities. They must also be committed to the concept of continuous improvement in all aspects of their job duties and must be willing and able to learn and share knowledge with others. The Electrician must be dependable, trustworthy, enthusiastic, polite, and thorough.

Required Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of four (4) years’ experience related to building maintenance or construction.
• A journeyman certificate or equivalent of competence in the appropriate trade classification for the work to be performed is required of all individuals performing electrical wiring and fixture repairs
• Must have a valid New Mexico State driver’s license and maintain it for bonding and insurance
• Must possess a New Mexico State recognized license
• Must keep accurate and legible records
• Mechanical as well customer service knowledge.
• Proven experience as an electrician in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems
• Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints
• Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
• Excellent physical condition and flexibility to work long shifts and overnight
• Diploma in relevant vocational training or successfully completed apprenticeship as an electrician
• Basic computer experience to perform data input, program control manipulation and alterations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a healthcare environment
• Mechanical as well customer service experience
• Basic keyboarding and computer skills
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills (i.e., the ability to work with hospital staff and external contacts)
• The ability to work under pressure
• Additional mechanical and electrical training (especially success in formal Technical/Vocational training)
• The ability to use electrical meters to check voltage and amp readings for connected loads
• Knowledge and ability to bend, cut, ream, thread, and join piping, test joints under pressure for leaks and repair or replace, clear drain stoppages

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Inspect equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition.
• Conduct general mechanical maintenance duties such as monitor, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair various building assemblies.
• Maintain routine records and determine the type and extent of malfunctioning equipment, and as necessary adjust, disassemble, repair, or replace parts, components, reassemble and test for proper operation.
• Report more serious problems to the Supervisor or Management for instructions and/or maintenance scheduling.
• Service and make repairs to all electrical systems to include air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including: fans, motors, coils, thermostats, dampers and regulating controls.
• Clean and lubricate fan coil units, motors, and other machinery.
• Replace filters, belts, hoses, and fluids as necessary and maintain adequate records of such repairs.
• Maintain, repair, and make alterations to steam, water, pneumatic, as well as sanitary plumbing pipelines, fixtures, and components for proper operation.
• Perform general cutting and joining of metals not requiring critical test tolerance or certification.
• Maintain lighting fixtures (e.g., bulbs and ballasts).
• Make minor repairs on hospital beds, TV screens, and other patient room contents, which are maintained by the Plant Engineering Department.
• Learn proper start-up, testing, running and shut down procedures along with preventive and general maintenance on the fire pump and emergency generator (i.e., battery checks / changes, proper gauge readings, etc.).
• Learn and apply proper procedures and respond accordingly when working with, disarming / re-arming, and diagnosing the messages and trouble lights for the fire alarm system.
• Make repairs to walls, patch holes, hang and remove items, paint, texture, and repair drywall, etc.
• Move supplies, furniture, equipment, properly dispose of trash and scrap materials.
• Maintain an organized work area, and clean up periodically as tasks progress, and upon completion.
• Learn and abide by other applicable SJRMC / Department policies and procedures.
• Maintain required competencies: HIPAA; safety; infection control; HealthStream on-line courses; and various other necessary education (i.e., in-service training sessions).
• Exercise proper safety practices before and throughout the execution of all duties.
• Be alert to unsafe conditions in environments needing attention. Correct the situation yourself or report it to the Engineering Supervisor or Production Control. Finally, follow up by recording the corrective action on your Daily Log Sheet or verify that a work order was issued.
• Report and follow-up to ensure needed equipment, materials, and supplies were ordered.
• Complete documentation on the status of work for tasks requiring more than one (1) day to complete.
• Complete records to accurately and thoroughly document all work performed.
• Keep a neat personal appearance
• Each employee is responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their daily work: Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:

• Typical work includes a lot of walking, standing, stooping, climbing, crawling, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
• May be required to work in sterile and mechanical areas (with moving machinery, noise, and heat).
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment.
• Normal eyesight, hearing, and manual dexterity with both hands are necessary for safety purposes.
• Must be able to concentrate, pay attention, yet remain alert to surrounding dangers.
