Are you a skilled legal support professional ready to grow as a leader? The Oregon Department of Justice’s Trial Division is seeking a Legal Support Services Supervisor 1 to join our team in either the Salem or Portland office. In this role, you will support the Criminal and Collateral Remedies Section, Special Litigation Unit, and Federal Oversight Unit while helping guide and strengthen our legal support operations.
In this role, you’ll provide strategic leadership to a team of legal support professionals—including legal secretaries and paralegals—while directing the daily operations of a fast‑paced legal office. You’ll oversee workflow, set performance expectations, and ensure cases move forward efficiently. Your leadership will drive exceptional support for our attorneys and reinforce consistent, high‑quality operations across sections.

Job Duties (in part)
- Lead and support a team of legal support staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and addressing performance and workplace concerns.
- Assess training needs and ensure staff have the tools and guidance they need to grow and meet the expectations of the Trial Division.
- Oversee and direct the daily administrative, clerical, and paraprofessional work that supports attorneys in the Criminal and Collateral Remedies Section, Special Litigation Unit, and Federal Oversight Unit, ensuring efficient workflows, consistent processes, and high‑quality service delivery.
- Participate in case staffing and review work for accuracy, proper documentation, and correct application of rules, procedures, and laws.
- Manage workload distribution, adjust assignments as needed, and support long‑term planning to keep work moving efficiently across sections.
- Coordinate with partner agencies, courts, vendors, and other DOJ units to support smooth operations and resolve workflow issues.
- Review paraprofessional billing, monitor expenditures, and help leadership track budget needs and resource priorities.
- Step in to assist with administrative work during peak periods or staffing shortages, ensuring continuity of service and timely completion of tasks.

Required Experience

- Three years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in a related field, AND
- Have and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
- Preference may be given to those with two years of experience as a high-level legal support professional.
