About the opportunity

The School of Mathematics and Statistics is currently seeking a Lecturer in Statistics who will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning design, delivery, and evaluation in statistics while continuing to build their own research program and network. These roles are replacements for staff members who are on fellowships.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• teach graduate and undergraduate courses in statistics and data science for students from different disciplinary backgrounds
• conduct high-quality research in statistics or related areas
• supervise and coordinate graduate and undergraduate students
• contribute to the administration and collegial life of the School, working closely with colleagues in statistics and related areas
• attract external funding.

About you

• a PhD (or near completion) in statistics or a closely related area
• evidence of independent research, compatible with the standards at The University of Sydney
• evidence of ability, versatility, and commitment to excellence in teaching statistics.

The following will be highly regarded:

5-year position:

• demonstrated ability to build productive collaborations with researchers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds and to translate statistical methodology into practice through consultation and collaborative research
• experience teaching statistics or data science to students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds
• evidence of research impact through collaborative publications, methodological adoption, or contributions to successful funding applications

3-year position:

• experience working with industry, government or other external partners
• a strong record in methodological or applied statistics, with demonstrated impact
• experience in teaching leadership and administration (e.g. unit coordination)
