SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Manager Medical Imaging, performs a variety of mammographic duties and procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Provides technical guidance of mammography technologists. Performs clerical and/or administrative functions necessary to the efficient operation of the unit and for patient record. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical, psychosocial and cultural needs. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Utilizes experience-based knowledge with little technical supervision to perform all the duties of a Mammography Technologist in routine and complex Mammographic procedures, including hospital based Breast Localization Procedures. Meets, greets, answers questions and provides an understandable explanation of mammographic examinations to patients in order to reduce apprehension. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards. Provides on the job instruction to employees in clinical procedures in the area of responsibility. May participate in formal in-service educational classes. Participates in the clinical training and instruction of new mammography technologists. May direct the work of others by assigning, coordinating, and reviewing their work. May provide input to performance evaluations. Schedules patients for mammographic examinations in a prescribed manner ensuring an efficient patient flow. Provides screening of mammography patients (visually and written). Outpatient Imaging Center Lead Position also handles the flow of Radiography and Bone Densitometry patients. Performs mammography exams and procedures demonstrating sound understanding of anatomical positioning, physiology and technical factors in order to produce optimum results. Understands and practices ALARA principles of Radiation Protection including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters. Outpatient Imaging Center Lead Position also performs Radiography and Bone Densitometry patients. Operates fixed digital radiographic equipment in the Mammography Department. Follows the guidelines and protocols for MQSA and ACR Mammography QA/QC. Performs daily mandatory requirement testing: monthly, quarterly, and semi-annually. Assures proper operating condition of equipment and accessories. Arranges for and documents all necessary repairs and service calls made through appropriated personnel within or outside the hospital and requests upgrades, schedules PM 's and calibrations. Inspects for damaged equipment. Follows protocols for appropriate usage of the RMS and PACS. Assists with accreditation of all new equipment and re-accreditation every three years through the American College of Radiology as meeting the application requirements. Assists in preparation of the annual review of the mammography facility including review of the QA records for the equipment, physicians, technologists, tracking to assure adherence to requirements established by the Federal Registry stated in the Mammography Quality Standards Act. Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks, such as: monthly tracking of all Birad 4 and 5 patients through to pathology, assures correct Lay Letters are sent to patients in a timely fashion, assures all exams are read by a radiologist within MQSA timeframe guidelines, monthly follow-up on all image QC issues, and resolves all cases on the MEE list. Maintains orderliness, cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area. Maintains quality assurance, observant of hospital and department safety regulations, environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives. Attire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards. Performs other related duties, as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology Program or equivalent is required. Maintains current license to work in the State of Rhode Island. Must hold current ARRT certification. Advance Certification from ARRT in Mammography is preferred. Must maintain requirements as outlined by the Mammography Quality Standards Act and American College of Radiology. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of Mammography experience is required. One year 's experience as Lead is preferred. Outpatient Imaging Center Lead Position requires a minimum of two years ' radiology experience, including proficiency in routine diagnostic radiology and Bone Densitometry. Ability to consistently meet the following job accountabilities: critical thinking, interpersonal skills, team membership, customer focus, initiative and reliability. Must have the conceptual ability to determine the means of providing the requested mammography images of acceptable diagnostic quality based on the specifics of each case. Must have the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, and to instruct employees in mammography techniques. Incumbent is exposed to patient-care environment, including exposure to blood and possibility of needle sticks. Any risk of exposure to contagious or noxious elements is minimized by adherence to safety procedures and protocols. Must have the physical dexterity and strength to operate all technical equipment, as well as to transfer and position patients within the mammography suite.

Pay Range:

$45.80-$75.58
