Job Description Summary

The Lead Magnet Development Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing MRI magnet assembly processes that support new product introductions and existing product improvements. This role serves as a key bridge between engineering design and manufacturing execution, ensuring MRI magnet designs are successfully translated into safe, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.

The engineer will lead assembly process development, tooling design, manufacturing readiness activities, product validation, and production support efforts across the MRI magnet product lifecycle. Working closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and global teams, this individual will drive process innovation, improve operational efficiency, and support the successful launch and sustainment of MRI magnet products.

The ideal candidate brings a strong manufacturing and assembly background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives in a highly collaborative environment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of MRI magnet assembly processes, tooling, and manufacturing methods for new product introductions.
  • Translate magnet designs and engineering requirements into robust, scalable manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Lead research and development activities focused on improving manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, product reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop, test, and validate new assembly technologies, tooling concepts, and production methodologies.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts between Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Service teams to ensure successful product development and production readiness.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives, incorporating ergonomics, safety, quality, and operational efficiency into product and process development.
  • Support manufacturing ramp-up activities, production transfers, and ongoing factory operations.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance data to identify opportunities for process improvements, cycle time reductions, quality enhancements, and cost savings.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause investigations related to product assembly, manufacturing processes, and field issues.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design reviews, validation documentation, and process improvement recommendations.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
  • Partner with global teams and external suppliers to achieve project milestones and business objectives.
  • Support the installed MRI product base and manufacturing operations through technical problem solving and process optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with GE HealthCare quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in manufacturing, assembly engineering, product development, process engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including heavy equipment manufacturing, assembly technologies, materials technologies, and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and drive projects to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MRI magnet manufacturing, assembly, or related medical device products.
  • Experience launching new products into manufacturing environments.
  • Experience developing or specifying large-scale tooling, fixtures, or assembly equipment.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing process development and validation activities.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and operational excellence methodologies.
  • Statistical analysis and data-driven problem-solving skills.
  • Experience utilizing data mining, automation, analytics, or machine learning techniques to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in fast-paced development environments.
  • Strong project leadership and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate innovative manufacturing and process solutions.
