The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Laboratory Manager for the Neuss, Germany Adhesives Laboratory in the Corporate Research Materials Laboratory (CRML), you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.
Here, you will make an impact by:
- Hiring, managing and deploying research staff against high-impact programs within the Neuss CRML Laboratory
- Coaching, mentoring and guiding technical staff while developing future technical and management leaders
- Ensuring safe laboratory operations and building a strong safety culture within the Neuss Laboratory in CRML
- Working closely with the CRML Vice President of R&D, platform leaders and partner divisions to establish strategy, set technical direction and identify new technology development programs
- Developing strong relationships with key division partners and integrating multiple divisional needs into a unified set of priorities
- Managing the New Technology Introduction process, including the NTI pipeline, associated tracking tools and commercialization paths for new technologies
- Collaborating with the global CRML organization to advance priority initiatives, develop new technologies and ensure lab-wide programs are appropriately staffed
- Developing staffing, succession and capability plans to ensure critical knowledge, skills and talent are developed and retained within the organization
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet following minimum requirements:
- Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related scientific discipline from an accredited university
- Significant experience in industrial research and development
- Technical supervisory and/or management experience.
- Proficiency in English and German
Additional knowledge / nice-to-have skills / preferred qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience with polymer science, polymer chemistry, adhesives, polymer characterization and technology development
- Strong understanding of safe laboratory practices within a materials and chemistry laboratory environment
- Experience with New Technology Introduction, NTI pipeline management and managing technology development programs or portfolios
- Experience developing technology relevant to New Product Introduction programs and working with multiple 3M divisions
- Experience working within a global laboratory setting
- Understanding of intellectual property and ability to develop IP strategies for new technologies
- Experience identifying and developing automation strategies for laboratory workflows, including sample tracking and data management.
- Experience in capital planning and execution to maintain and build laboratory capabilities
- Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, data analysis and leadership skills, with experience working across global teams and programs.
