Key Account Manager – Rare Diseases

Location: Sofia

Introduction to the role

At AstraZeneca, we are driven by one ambition: to push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines for patients. In Rare Diseases, this means working at the intersection of scientific innovation, healthcare partnership, and patient impact.

We are looking for a Key Account Manager to join our Rare Disease team in Bulgaria. The role is based in Sofia and covers Sofia and the Sofia region.

As a Key Account Manager, you will play an important role in shaping how AstraZeneca partners with the healthcare system across your territory. You will be responsible for building strong, credible relationships with key stakeholders in priority institutions and helping ensure that eligible patients can benefit from our medicines. This is a highly collaborative role that combines account management, scientific dialogue, cross-functional teamwork, and strategic execution.

This role is well suited to someone who is energised by working in a complex healthcare environment, can navigate multiple stakeholders with confidence, and is motivated by making a meaningful difference for patients in Bulgaria.

What you will do

In this role, you will manage strategically important accounts and institutions within your territory, with accountability for performance, engagement, and execution. You will identify opportunities to grow and strengthen AstraZeneca's presence by understanding institutional priorities, stakeholder needs, and the local treatment landscape.

You will build and maintain strong professional relationships with relevant external stakeholders, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare decision-makers, always grounded in ethical, compliant, and science-led engagement. A key part of the role is understanding what matters to each account and using those insights to tailor value-based interactions that support both customer needs and AstraZeneca's business objectives.

You will also work closely with internal colleagues across functions, sharing market insights and helping to align field execution with broader brand and business priorities. Success in this role requires strong prioritisation, thoughtful territory planning, and the ability to work effectively across both face-to-face and digital channels.

More specifically, you will:

  • Lead key account management for strategically important institutions, taking ownership for account planning, prioritisation, and execution within your territory.

  • Drive demand generation for assigned Rare Disease brands by identifying opportunities, understanding stakeholder needs, and communicating relevant value propositions in a compliant way.

  • Develop account plans that reflect institutional dynamics, treatment pathways, access considerations, and stakeholder influence across the local healthcare ecosystem.

  • Build trusted partnerships with healthcare professionals and institutional stakeholders through credible scientific and business dialogue.

  • Prioritise high-value accounts such as hospitals, clinics, departments, and supply pharmacies, focusing time and resources where they can have the greatest impact.

  • Generate and share insights from the field to inform cross-functional decision-making, including sales, marketing, medical, and other relevant teams.

  • Use multiple engagement channels effectively, including in-person meetings and virtual interactions, to deliver a high-quality customer experience.

  • Contribute to AstraZeneca's reputation as a valued healthcare partner by understanding the broader system context and engaging with professionalism, integrity, and a patient-focused mindset.

  • Work in full compliance with AstraZeneca's Code of Ethics, company policies, local regulations, patient safety requirements, and quality standards.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of assigned products, disease areas, market developments, and relevant scientific information.

What you bring

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical sales or key account management, including proven experience working with hospital specialists, not solely general practitioners (GPs)

  • A university degree in medicine, pharmacy, or dentistry; a degree in biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, or another life science field is also accepted

  • Experience in rare diseases or specialty care, such as haematology, nephrology, neurology, immunology, oncology, genetics, or metabolic diseases, is a strong advantage

  • A solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the ability to work effectively in a regulated environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage different stakeholder groups in a credible and professional manner

  • A high level of personal drive, initiative, and accountability, and a strong customer and patient focus

  • The ability to work with resilience in a dynamic and sometimes complex environment, as well as strong planning, organisation, and analytical skills

  • Fluency in Bulgarian and English

  • A valid driving licence and willingness to travel within the assigned territory

You will be empowered to bring ideas forward, work cross-functionally, and contribute to solutions that matter in everyday practice.
