About the Job

Our core technology is the node, a device that produces energy in the ocean’s harshest conditions for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention.

As a Journeyman Electrician, you will build, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify the electrical systems that support our facilities, labs, test equipment, manufacturing equipment, and industrial operations. The work changes as our capabilities grow: one day you may install power for new equipment, the next diagnose a fault or rework circuits for a changing lab or shop.

You will work closely with our Electrical Infrastructure Engineer, Facilities team, engineers, technicians, contractors, and the appropriate supervising electrician. You will turn approved electrical requirements into practical installations, identify problems before they become bigger ones, and leave behind clear documentation of what was installed or changed.

Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to thrive in a creative, scrappy, and collaborative environment in which the best ideas change the company’s direction on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Build and modify electrical distribution systems, including conduit, raceway, conductors, feeders, branch circuits, disconnects, transformers, panels, receptacles, lighting, grounding and bonding, and associated equipment.
• Install electrical connections for R&D equipment, test systems, manufacturing equipment, compute infrastructure, pumps, motors, HVAC equipment, and other facility loads, including work on 480V three-phase and 208/120V systems.
• Troubleshoot circuits, controls, motor controls, breakers, distribution systems, and electrical equipment using systematic fault-isolation methods, and restore operation safely.
• Maintain electrical infrastructure through preventive maintenance, inspections, planned shutdowns, testing, and early identification of unsafe conditions, capacity constraints, deteriorating equipment, and reliability risks.
• Deliver practical field installations from approved drawings, one-lines, panel schedules, specifications, field direction, and electrical plans, escalating incomplete requirements, design conflicts, and unsafe conditions before proceeding.
• Support equipment installation, startup, commissioning, energization, test operations, and rapid reconfigurations while maintaining electrical safety, code compliance, and long-term maintainability.
• Create accurate records of electrical work, including panel schedules, equipment labels, circuit identification, work-order closeout, redlines, photographs, test results, materials used, and field changes.
• Drive safe electrical work by following applicable electrical codes, OSHA requirements, NFPA 70E practices, lockout/tagout and hazardous-energy-control procedures, and Panthalassa safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Current Oregon General Journeyman Electrician (J) license, or ability to obtain an Oregon reciprocal General Journeyman Electrician license before performing licensed electrical work.
• Hands-on experience installing, modifying, maintaining, and troubleshooting commercial or industrial electrical systems, including 480V three-phase and 208/120V distribution.
• Experience with conduit, raceways, conductors, feeders, branch circuits, panels, transformers, disconnects, grounding and bonding, receptacles, lighting, and motor circuits.
• Ability to troubleshoot circuits, breakers, motors, contactors, relays, and basic electrical controls using systematic diagnostic methods.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, schematics, panel schedules, equipment documentation, and specifications.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, lockout/tagout requirements, and electrical safe-work practices, including safe and appropriate use of electrical test equipment.
• Ability to execute assigned field work independently and recognize when conditions require escalation to the responsible supervising electrician, engineer, or other technical resource.
• Clear communication and documentation habits, and the ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, contractors, and operations teams in an active industrial environment.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in an R&D, prototype, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, energy, data center, marine, or similarly fast-moving technical environment.
• Experience with high-power test equipment, large industrial loads, or electrical distribution systems that change frequently.
• Experience troubleshooting VFDs, motor-control systems, industrial control circuits, PLC-connected equipment, or instrumentation wiring.
• Experience supporting equipment startup, commissioning, and energization.
• Experience with generators, UPS systems, transfer equipment, temporary power, or other backup and alternative power systems.
• Familiarity with infrared inspections, preventive electrical maintenance, or power-quality troubleshooting.
• NFPA 70E training.
• Current Washington 01 General Journey Level Electrician certificate, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one through reciprocity before performing licensed electrical work at Panthalassa’s Washington facilities.

Additional Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to perform physical electrical work in active shops, labs, electrical rooms, equipment areas, construction environments, and industrial spaces, including working from ladders or lifts, pulling wire, bending and installing conduit, accessing equipment in confined or elevated locations where permitted, and lifting or moving tools and materials consistent with the requirements of the trade.
• Ability to work at other Panthalassa sites in the Portland/Vancouver region as needed.
• Ability to occasionally work outside normal operating hours for shutdowns, energization, commissioning, or work that cannot safely be performed while equipment is operating.
• Travel to vendors and test sites as needed
• Intermittently able to work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs. While we expect a lot of each other, we also offer a high degree of autonomy and work-life balance, including flexible PTO and flexible working hours.

Compensation and Benefits

If hired for this full-time role, you will receive:

• Cash compensation of $52/hour - $68/hour.
