Position Description:

We are seeking a senior hands-on developer and architect for a Vice President role within Corporate Workplace Technology. The successful candidate will operate as a technical leader with end-to-end ownership of critical applications and platform capabilities, driving architecture, delivery quality, production stability, modernization, and operational maturity. This role requires strong Java and full-stack engineering experience, deep architecture judgment, and the ability to influence global teams, business stakeholders, and senior technology partners. The candidate will be expected to translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions, lead design decisions, raise engineering standards, and deliver robust, secure, well-tested systems that solve real business problems. The role also requires an ownership mindset, strong communication skills, disciplined execution, and experience applying modern engineering practices, including responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery speed, code quality, testing, documentation, and developer productivity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own one or more business-critical applications or platform capabilities end-to-end, including technical roadmap, architecture, delivery quality, supportability, production stability, resiliency, risk controls, and lifecycle modernization.

  • Lead architecture and design discussions, set technical direction, evaluate trade-offs, and ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, security, data, resiliency, and operational standards.

  • Provide hands-on design and development of core Java, full-stack, and integration solutions, contributing high-quality code while maintaining accountability for the broader technical outcome.

  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and global technology teams to translate business needs into scalable, secure, maintainable, and operationally sound technology solutions.

  • Drive engineering excellence across the team, including clean design, reusable components, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, performance, secure coding, documentation, and production readiness.

  • Mentor engineers, review designs and code, lead by example, and raise technical standards across local and global squads without relying solely on formal reporting lines.

  • Influence technical direction beyond a single feature or project by identifying modernization opportunities, reducing technical debt, improving platform reliability, and promoting common patterns.

  • Investigate, triage, and resolve production issues, ensuring root-cause analysis, durable remediation, and continuous improvement of support and monitoring practices.

  • Produce proofs of concept and technical evaluations for new capabilities, frameworks, tools, and architecture patterns that can improve scalability, resilience, delivery quality, or developer productivity.

  • Apply AI-assisted development tools responsibly where appropriate to accelerate analysis, coding, testing, refactoring, documentation, and knowledge discovery while maintaining strong engineering judgment, security, and code ownership.

  • Participate in all aspects of the SDLC, including analysis, architecture, design, coding, testing, implementation, deployment, production support, and Agile planning.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of hands-on professional experience using Core Java, Java RESTful APIs, Gradle/Maven, Spring, Spring Boot, IBM MQ Series, and related frameworks.

  • 5+ years of experience architecting technical solutions and leading design decisions for enterprise-scale applications, platforms, or services.

  • Demonstrated experience owning business-critical applications or platform capabilities, including roadmap input, technical strategy, production stability, risk management, and lifecycle modernization.

  • Proven ability to operate as a senior technical leader, influence global teams, mentor engineers, review designs and code, and drive engineering standards across squads.

  • Experience partnering with business stakeholders, product owners, operations teams, and senior technology stakeholders to deliver practical, scalable solutions aligned to business outcomes.

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar tools to improve development productivity, testing, documentation, refactoring, analysis, and knowledge discovery, with strong attention to responsible usage, security, and code quality.

  • Experience working with geographically dispersed teams across different time zones.

  • Solid understanding and experience with Object-Oriented design and development.

  • Solid understanding and experience with microservices architecture, distributed systems, integration patterns, resiliency, scalability, and fault tolerance.

  • Solid understanding and experience building user experiences in React or Angular.

  • Experience building server-side applications using J2EE technologies.

  • Experience building public cloud or cloud-ready applications.

  • Experience building highly scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant microservices in Kubernetes.

  • Familiarity with OAuth2/OIDC and modern authentication and authorization patterns.

  • Proficient with database technologies, preferably PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, or DB2, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning.

  • Highly proficient working in Linux environments.

  • Experience building solutions in Python, Perl, and Unix shell scripting such as Bash.

  • Experience with ETL; Informatica experience is a plus.

  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD, automated testing, deployment automation, observability, and production readiness.
