The Inventory Specialist function is a critical component of Smith+Nephew's overall US Supply Chain strategy. As an Inventory Specialist 2, you are responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records as products move throughout the territory. Accountability of products missing from instrument sets is critical to ensuring accurate billing, compliance, and customer service. You will play a key role in case coverage, inventory management, logistics coordination, and data analysis.
This position is an on-site member of the Logistics Team within a territory sales office. The role is responsible for implementing company inventory and asset management policies and procedures at the territory and area level. This includes maximizing asset utilization, minimizing inventory and instrument investment, maintaining accurate product placement records, and supporting the successful execution of surgical cases through inventory planning and coordination.
What will you be doing?
Perform daily operational activities including picking and packing finished goods, maintaining inventory accuracy, sourcing surgical cases, and proactively communicating with Sales Representatives.
Manage inventory levels throughout the sales district to ensure the right products are available at the right location and time.
Coordinate surgery schedules and ensure the accurate and timely preparation and delivery of instruments and implant sets for surgical procedures.
Execute all product recall activities immediately to ensure regulatory and quality compliance requirements are met.
Partner closely with Quality and Regulatory teams to support compliance processes and corrective actions.
Ensure all consignment locations maintain valid consignment agreements and custody documentation.
Conduct field cycle counts and inventory audits to maintain inventory accuracy.
Coordinate and participate in territory physical inventories, including reconciliation activities and variance investigations.
Perform semi-annual IAP validations and ensure adjustments are completed accurately.
Analyze inventory asset levels and utilization trends to maximize efficiency and improve sales performance.
Perform instrument and implant utilization analysis and provide recommendations for inventory optimization.
Partner with Sales Management, Sales Representatives, and Logistics leadership to improve inventory deployment strategies.
Generate and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory and product reports.
Perform financial and operational analysis impacting territory and area P&L activities.
Process required order entry activities supporting daily surgical cases.
Conduct MOVE Medical system reviews in partnership with Field Logistics Specialists.
Perform freight activity reviews and monitor FedEx and courier utilization to optimize transportation expenses.
Maintain compliance with company asset utilization goals and inventory management standards.
Provide on-call support as required.
Learn and effectively utilize inventory management systems, including MOVE Medical and SAP.
Train, coach, and direct other personnel on inventory, logistics, and operational procedures.
Support continuous improvement initiatives that increase inventory accuracy, customer service, and operational efficiency.
What will you need to be successful?
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Experience
Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in Operations, Logistics, Business Analysis, Supply Chain, or a related field
Skills & Capabilities
Strong inventory management and analytical skills
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy
Proficiency with ERP and inventory management systems such as SAP and MOVE Medical
Ability to train and mentor others
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
Standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time are regularly required.
Licenses/Certifications
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record
