GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required and state of Mississippi teaching certification in Math, Science, English, College & Career Readiness, and/or US History.
  • Experience working with high school students, particularly students from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Experience providing tutoring, academic intervention, advising, mentoring, or student support services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze academic data and identify student needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain knowledge of legislation, and best practices.
  • Serve participants in the after-school/ Saturday Academy tutorial program (via face to face, virtual, and/or hybrid).
  • Develop and implement individualized academic intervention plans for students requiring additional support.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group academic interventions.
  • Assist students with challenging coursework, study strategies, organization, time management, note taking, test preparation, and homework completion.
  • Provide targeted support in mathematics, English/language arts, science, social studies, and other academic areas as appropriate.
  • Adjust intervention strategies based on student performance and documented progress.
  • Refer students to additional academic resources when needs exceed the scope of position.
  • Ensure that tutoring activities are documented appropriately.
  • Track student grades and intervention outcomes.
  • Communicate significant academic concerns to the Project Director in a timely manner.
  • Make recommendations for continued, modified, or discontinued intervention services based on the student's progress.
  • Assist with educational field trips, college tours, and other program activities when appropriate.
  • Serve as an academic resource for Achievers throughout the program year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities outdoors and off site.
