Role overview:

Ready to take your career global? Join the Rolls-Royce International Development Engineering Internship and take part in a rewarding 12 week experience supporting the development of world-class aerospace propulsion systems. Working within the Development Engineering team, you will contribute to activities across major programmes including the Trent Fleet, 97CI Step 3 and UltraFan/Demonstrator programmes. You will gain hands-on engineering experience, work alongside experienced engineers and technical leaders, and contribute to real-world problem solving while immersing yourself in a new culture.

What you’ll be doing:

• Participating in a 12-week Engineering Internship, through real-world assignments working on exciting and varied projects in an engineering capability
• Using data, technology and AI to improve processes
• Working under the guidance of an experienced engineer while also receiving coaching and support from mentors in the US and UK
• Developing valuable, transferable skills through varied daily tasks and support from experienced professionals across the organization
• Supporting engineering activities on civil aerospace development programs, working with engineers to solve technical challenges and deliver project objectives.
• Contributing to engineering investigations, data analysis, reporting and continuous improvement activities.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Development Engineering, Design, Test and Program functions.
• Specific project assignments and scope of work will be agreed closer to the internship start date to reflect program priorities and business needs at the time.

Who we’re looking for:

• Working towards an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and/or related degree
• A strong passion for the future of technology
• A willingness to work flexibly and travel between locations. In most cases, you’ll be able to meet the requirements in the location you are recruited to, however, we may need you to be flexible and travel between sites during or for your internship
• An open-minded, curious, and agile approach to work and career development
• Understanding how to interpret data and apply it to a decision or next action step as needed as well as the concept of continuous improvement
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Minimum GPA: 3.0

Work authorization eligibility: To be considered, you must also be a U.S. Citizen.

This internship is funded by the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech through an endowment grant given to the selected students. All communications surrounding pay and auxiliary benefits will be presented at time of offer from each university.

Must be a student graduating between December 2027 and May 2028 at the University of Virginia or Virginia Tech to be eligible for this internship
