Responsibilities During Training System Build‑Up

  • Undertake aircraft type conversion training.

  • Support the design and development of courseware (classroom‑based, synthetic training device‑based, and live flying sequences).

  • Support acceptance testing of courseware, synthetic training devices, and aircraft.

  • Support the establishment of an Integrated Training Center by developing policy and procedure documents.

  • Support the integration and testing of Information Management systems (e.g., Learning).

  • Test synthetic training device lesson plans and PC‑21 Air Lesson Plans (ALPs).
     

Responsibilities Once Steady‑State Training Commences

  • Deliver training in the classroom, on synthetic training devices, and in the PC‑21 aircraft.

  • Maintain flying proficiency, category, and currency in accordance with applicable orders (B‑GA‑100, RCAF FOM, 2 CFFTS Orders, CQFI SOW).

  • Conduct instructional sorties following RCAF instructional doctrine.

  • Execute all missions in the AFT‑FW syllabus, including cross‑country and out‑and‑back missions.

  • Assist the Flight Commander in monitoring instructor continuity and student progression.

  • Prepare and conduct presentations and briefings, including A Category ground school where applicable.

  • Follow CAF Flight Safety program protocols in accordance with A‑GA‑135‑001/AA‑001.

  • Support the customer in writing, maintaining, and reviewing procedures, manuals, and other documentation.

  • Support OA and TA organizations internally and externally as a subject matter expert.

  • Participate in routine reviews of courseware and procedures.

  • Contribute to ongoing improvement and maintenance of courseware.

  • Perform Maintenance Test Pilot duties as assigned.
     

CQFI Requirements

  • Instruct students on Clearhood, Instrument, Navigation, Formation, and Composite missions.

  • Conduct night flying using Night Vision Goggles (NVG).

  • May be required to work in Standards, conduct staff development, and/or conduct QFI training based on demonstrated performance.
     

Currency Requirements

  • Aeromedical Training IAW CADO 5‑301

  • Spatial Disorientation Training

  • Centrifuge Training

  • Escape Systems/Ground Egress Training

  • ALSE Training

  • Sea Survival Training

  • Air Operations Survival – Land

  • Servicing Training for Cross‑Country flights

  • St. John’s Ambulance First Aid certification (including CPR and AED)

  • Fire prevention and fire extinguisher training every four years
     

Minimum Qualifications

For candidates with NO prior military experience

  • Minimum 500 hours of flying time in a single‑pilot, high‑performance aeroplane.

  • Transport Canada (TC) Commercial Pilot Licence.

  • Hold, or have previously held, a TC instructor rating.
     

For candidates WITH prior military experience

  • Demonstrated military experience with an acceptable Prior Learning Assessment Requirement completed.
     

For all candidates

  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, oral communication).

  • Military or professional flying experience within the last 10 years.

  • Hold an unrestricted TC Category 1 medical and any additional RCAF‑required medical exams.

  • Body weight and anthropometric measurements must meet aircraft limits.

  • Must pass a security evaluation per Controlled Goods Directorate requirements and meet US ITAR re‑transfer authorization compliance.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous NFTC QFI or PC‑21 QFI experience.

  • Previous flying supervisory or military flight leadership experience.

  • Flight lead experience in a trainer or fighter aircraft.

  • Military instructional experience.

  • RCAF Aerospace Warfare Centre (RAWC) Operational Test & Evaluation Course (or RCAF‑recognized equivalent).
