Position Summary

The Manager of Instructors is a people‑leader and operational manager responsible for directing, developing, and supporting a team of technical instructors. This role ensures the consistent delivery of high‑quality training while building instructor capability, standardizing processes, and serving as a growing Subject Matter Expert (SME) in AVO course content.

This position requires strong management experience, the ability to learn complex technical material quickly, and the confidence to represent AVO as a knowledgeable resource to clients, internal stakeholders, and leadership. The ideal candidate combines operational discipline, coaching skills, and technical curiosity with the ability to scale instructor performance as the business grows.

  • Identify skill gaps and development opportunities; ensure instructors are continuously improving both technically and professionally.
  • Oversee instructor recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing certification or qualification requirements.
  • Serve as an escalation point for instructor, student, or client concerns.

Instructor Operations & Program Management

  • Own instructor scheduling, resource allocation, and instructional assignments across in‑person, hosted, on‑site, and virtual courses.
  • Manage all Day 1 and final‑day course operations, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance.
  • Review and approve instructor travel plans and expense reports.
  • Ensure backup coverage and act as instructor substitute when needed.
  • Maintain accountability for instructor deliverables, timelines, and assigned projects.

Content Oversight & SME Development

  • Review newly developed and updated AVO course materials for technical accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Partner closely with curriculum development and technical teams to improve instructional content and delivery methods.
  • Actively build subject‑matter expertise across AVO course offerings, with the expectation of becoming a trusted internal and external SME.
  • Participate in client calls and sales discussions to provide technical insight and support course placement.

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Audit weekly student feedback and instructor evaluations to ensure training and instructional standards are met.
  • Ensure all training aligns with applicable industry standards and best practices (e.g., NFPA, NETA, IEEE, OSHA).
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, instructor efficiencies, and new training or revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to support strategic growth initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Technical Education, or related field or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical maintenance, power systems, substations, or related technical fields.

  • Strong working knowledge of electrical safety practices and standards.
  • Ability to learn new technical material quickly and translate it into effective instructional guidance.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, operational environment with competing priorities.
