Job Description:

Under general direction, the Instructional Designer Senior collaborates with faculty, academic leaders, and subject matter experts to design, develop, implement, and continuously improve high-quality learning experiences for online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced programs. As a member of the School of Technology for Public Health (STPH) - a newly established and rapidly growing academic unit - this position offers a unique opportunity to help shape the school's educational vision, influence the design of innovative graduate and undergraduate programs, and establish instructional design standards that will define the student learning experience for years to come. The Instructional Designer Senior applies evidence-based instructional design principles, learning sciences, backward design methodologies, and assessment best practices to create engaging, learner-centered educational experiences that promote student success and achievement of program learning outcomes.

The Instructional Designer Senior serves as a strategic educational consultant, partnering with faculty to transform ideas into exceptional learning experiences while helping build a culture of educational innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence across the school.

Salary Range: $66,200 to $80,000; DOE

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leaders to design, develop, and continuously improve online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses using evidence-based instructional design principles.

  • Apply backward design methodologies to align program outcomes, course outcomes, instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments.

  • Consult with faculty on course design, authentic assessment, educational technologies, accessibility, and best practices in teaching and learning.

  • Develop instructional resources, templates, multimedia materials, and documentation that promote consistent, high-quality learning experiences across academic programs.

  • Support curriculum mapping, quality assurance, program assessment, and accreditation initiatives to ensure alignment with university and professional standards.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and support the implementation of educational technologies that enhance student learning and faculty effectiveness.

  • Facilitate faculty training, workshops, and individual consultations on instructional design, educational technology, and innovative teaching practices.

  • Manage multiple instructional design projects while collaborating with faculty, instructional technology staff, and university partners to meet project timelines.

  • Research emerging instructional design trends, learning sciences, artificial intelligence, and educational technologies, incorporating appropriate innovations into course and program development.

  • Work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic academic environment while exercising sound judgment, maintaining effective working relationships, and adapting to changing priorities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Curriculum & Instruction, Adult Education, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing online or hybrid courses in a higher education environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design methodologies, including backward design and evidence-based teaching and learning practices.

  • Experience collaborating with faculty and subject matter experts to develop engaging, learner-centered educational experiences.

  • Experience designing authentic assessments, rubrics, and curriculum aligned with measurable learning outcomes.

  • Experience supporting curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation, or continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning management systems (Canvas preferred) and educational technologies used to support teaching and learning.

  • Experience developing multimedia instructional materials and utilizing emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance learning.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility standards, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and inclusive course design principles.

  • Experience managing multiple instructional design projects while building collaborative relationships across stakeholders.

  • Experience collaborating with faculty and subject matter experts in health fields to develop engaging, learner-centered educational experiences.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse

  • Regularly uses a desktop or laptop computer, learning management systems, video conferencing platforms, and other instructional and productivity technologies.
