Über diese HSE Assurance Advisor Stelle bei Transurban

Transurban · Hybrid · Virginia

This role operates on a hybrid model, based out of our Alexandria office a minimum of three days per week. Candidates must be comfortable working along active highways and construction environments, with the flexibility to support overnight shifts and work outside standard business hours when operational needs or high-risk activities arise. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history is required.

Summary of the role:

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Assurance Advisor plays a critical role in promoting a strong safety and environmental culture by ensuring the effective implementation of Transurban’s HSE Management System across highway maintenance and construction operations. This role is well suited for an experienced HSE professional who is comfortable in the field working with contractors and employees and operating in a corporate environment. You’ll have a direct impact by conducting assurance activities for high‑risk work, supporting audits and incident investigations, and driving continuous improvement in safety, security, and environmental performance. Joining Transurban offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of infrastructure and public safety, contributing to large‑scale transportation projects that help create safer, more sustainable communities. More details of the role are below.

Transurban:

Working at Transurban is different; it's a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create transportation solutions-building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads-to solve pressing transport challenges.

About the role:

As the HSE Assurance Advisor, you will be part of Transurban’s corporate Delivery and Risk function, providing technical expertise, oversight, and guidance to highway operations and project delivery teams.

This role demands a balance of stakeholder engagement, technical compliance, and field presence. You will navigate dynamic construction and operational environments, exercising sound judgment to evaluate risk and oversee safety compliance.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Plan and conduct assurance activities for high-risk field work, including fall protection, electrical safety, excavation and trenching, vehicle operations, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) / work area protection.
  • Conduct or participate in internal and external HSE audits, environmental inspections, and contractor compliance evaluations under supervision.
  • Support the development, rollout, and continuous improvement of asset-specific HSE Management Plans, environmental protection programs, and safe work procedures.
  • Identify and intervene in emerging safety, security, and risk trends in collaboration with Project Delivery, Operations & Maintenance, and Technology teams.
  • Support fleet operations frameworks by conducting telematics reviews, providing driver coaching, and enhancing fleet safety workflows.
  • Coach, train, and guide field teams and contractors to foster proactive hazard reporting, environmental stewardship, and a strong safety culture.
  • Provide agile HSE support and technical leadership during operational incidents or emergency events to ensure business continuity and resilience.
  • Conduct or support incident investigations and guide the development of effective corrective actions, including those related to environmental incidents.

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:

  • Experience with and comfortable operating in a corporate environment while engaging regularly with field‑based teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident investigation, training delivery, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience delivering safety programs (e.g., Electrical Safety, Lockout Tagout (LOTO), Fall Protection, Hazard Communication (HAZCOM)).
  • Experience within infrastructure, construction, and work area protection.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, National Fire Protection Association Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E), HSE best practices, environmental compliance, risk management, and safety systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations such as the Clean Water Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and/or Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

We are open to considering candidates who either reside in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, are within a reasonable commuting distance to Tysons Corner and Alexandria, VA and/or are willing to relocate at their own expense. Candidates who reside in the DMV area will be prioritized.

With a career at Transurban, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life, STD and LTD insurance and retirement plan.
  • A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year.
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status).
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests.
  • Health and wellbeing support-access to Headspace, Ginger, wellness facilities, and more.
  • Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days.

At Transurban, we are committed to equal employment opportunity and providing a work environment that is free from discriminatory practices. We will not discriminate against employees or applicants for employment on any legally recognized basis [“protected class”] including, but not limited to: race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, citizenship or immigration status, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, genetic information, marital status, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, veteran or military status (including status as a U.S. uniformed services member or reservist, or as a spouse, child, or qualifying dependent of a service member), or any other category protected by federal, state, or local law.
