About Us

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. State Troopers are committed to protecting North Carolina's motoring public.

Description of Work

Are you organized, dependable, and interested in building a career in Human Resources? The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is seeking an HR Technician to join our Human Resources team!

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Key Responsibilities


  • Recruitment life cycle – work with hiring supervisors to create effective postings, posting job announcements, screening and referring the most qualified applicants in the State's automated job posting system (Workday).

  • Process personnel actions in the State's Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and payroll system to include new hires, separations, transfers, promotions; calculate appropriate salary for new hires, promotions etc.

  • Assist with day-to-day information-Workday onboarding and maintaining personnel files.

  • Perform various administrative functions to include processing personnel actions .

  • Provide policy and procedure assistance to managers, supervisors and employees.

Recruitment Range: $37,377-$65,408 Annually

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required. If you possess any of the following skills or qualifications, please include them in your application:


 

  • Experience using HRIS systems

  • Experience exercising judgment and discretion in the application and interpretation of personnel policies and procedures

  • Experience providing customer service through email and telephone

  • Experience completing hiring packages using salary administration rules

  • Working knowledge of applicant tracking systems such as Workday

  • Deadline-driven

 

Position/Physical Requirements

 

  • Typical work schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution

 

AND

 

1 year of experience required;

 

OR

 

2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources;

 

OR

 

equivalent combination or education and experience.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, along with the state application.

 

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.

 

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard, with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22, along with the state application.
