This hands-on position supports the development and deployment of laser technologies by working directly with laser hardware, power distribution equipment, thermal management systems, electrical and mechanical assemblies, instrumentation, and supporting subsystems.

The technician will collaborate closely with engineers, production personnel, test teams, and program leadership to ensure HEL systems are built, integrated, tested, maintained, and fielded safely and effectively. This position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to support laboratory, manufacturing, and field operations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate power distribution, power conditioning, energy storage, and thermal management equipment supporting HEL operations.

  • Perform system-level and subsystem-level integration activities for laser, power, cooling, controls, and support equipment.

  • Execute test procedures and support developmental, qualification, acceptance, and operational testing activities.

  • Operate test equipment and instrumentation to collect, record, and document system performance data.

  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, thermal, and laser system issues and support root-cause investigations.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on laboratory, production, and fielded equipment.

  • Support environmental testing, field demonstrations, customer events, and operational exercises.

  • Assist engineers with hardware modifications, system upgrades, prototype development, and technical documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, laser safety requirements, quality standards, and program operating procedures.

  • Travel as required to support system integration, field testing, customer demonstrations, and deployment activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Laser/Electro-Optical Technology, or related technical discipline; or equivalent military or industry experience.

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience supporting complex electrical, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems.

  • Experience performing hardware assembly, system integration, troubleshooting, and testing activities.

  • Experience working with electrical systems, power distribution equipment, thermal management systems, cooling systems, or industrial equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, assembly instructions, and technical documentation.

  • Experience using electrical and mechanical test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and diagnostic tools.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve hardware and system-level issues.
