Maintain, setup, and operate Box/Internal Quench furnaces and support equipment including endothermic gas generator, transfer cart, quench presses, and tempering oven. Perform light lathe work to support the department.Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 lbs and reach, bend, squat, and stand for 10 hours per day. Must be able to work in cramped and confined areas. Must be certifiable for respirator use.
Special Skills: Good industrial mechanical aptitude.
Able to work closely with others—able to multitask.
Able to work with minimal supervision—self starter.
Engine lathe experience required.
Fabrication/welding experience required.
Safety Focused—ability to work safely around very hot equipment/parts.
Required to follow and uphold established procedures.
Detail oriented—paper work and record keeping.
Understanding of instrumentation and process control methods
Responsibilities:
1. Schedule material through the furnaces to meet production needs.
2. Monitor and adjust furnace controls
3. Setup and operate quench presses.
4. Maintain equipment in good operating condition by complying with the TPM checklist.
5. Maintain and track inventory of spare parts, repair parts, and materials.
6. Maintain and repair furnace equipment, work holding equipment, and other support equipment.
7. Work from prints, summaries, written and oral instructions.
8. Assure quality products by following procedures and work instructions.
9. Maintain records required for job orders and quality assurance in accordance with quality procedures and work instructions.
10. Be available for weekend and emergency callout.
11. Participate in 5S and Continuous Improvement activities, keep work area clean/organized, and identify ways to improve the operation.
12. Follow all company safety procedures and JSA for specific tasks. Help write new JSA when needed.
Activities:
Makeup Furnace loads De-Collars stem pinions
Unload and load furnaces Regularly check V-belts and air filters
Setup quench presses Monitor furnace performance including
Clean quench oil from parts chain drives, combustion system, elevator,
Load tempering oven pumps, fans, limit switches, etc.
Log jobs in the heat treat log book Perform Furnace Repairs:
Log jobs in the burnout log book Install radiant tubes
Burnout furnace, endo burnout, and purge Replace refractory brick and insulation
Change chart paper and document process Repair doors and door seals
Check and adjust fluid levels, lubricate equipment Repair gas valves and solenoids
Palletize parts Repair pneumatic cylinders
Perform hardness tests Replace catalyst in Endo Generator
Perform shim tests on furnaces Compressor and carburetor repair
Clean and maintain flow meters Replace bearings on heat zone fans
Operate/Maintain electronic furnace controls Replace rollers and roller rails
