Job Title: Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Shipper

Job Summary

At JLL, we’re looking for a dedicated Hazardous Materials (HazMat). Shipper who is responsible for the compliant preparation, documentation, and coordination of hazardous and regulated materials for transport. This role ensures all hazmat shipments meet DOT and IATA requirements, cold chain integrity where applicable, and audit readiness. The HazMat Shipper plays a critical role in preventing incidents, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting on-time shipment performance.

Key Responsibilities

HazMat Shipping & Documentation

• Classify, package, mark, label, and document hazardous materials in accordance with DOT and IATA regulations

• Prepare domestic/international shipments and review shipping papers, dangerous goods declarations, air waybills, and bills of lading

• Verify compatibility, quantity limits, and packaging requirements for hazardous materials

• Ensure all hazmat shipments meet regulatory, carrier, and site-specific requirements prior to release

Shipment Coordination

• Coordinate hazmat shipments to ensure safe staging, handling, and transfer to carriers

• Verify carrier credentials and ensure drivers are authorized to transport hazardous materials

• Monitor vehicle activities to ensure safe vehicle movement when carriers are picking up/dropping off packages at the site

• Minimize dwell time for hazardous and temperature-sensitive materials

Cold Chain & Special Handling (as applicable)

• Support temperature-controlled hazmat shipments, including use of validated packaging and monitoring devices

• Verify temperature documentation and data loggers prior to shipment and upon receipt

• Escalate and document temperature excursions or handling deviations

Compliance, Safety & Audit Readiness

• Maintain continuous audit readiness for internal, customer, and regulatory audits

• Ensure compliance with DOT and IATA training requirements and maintain current certifications

• Support incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions related to hazmat shipments

• Follow site safety procedures, PPE requirements, and emergency response protocols

• Participate in drills, inspections, and compliance reviews

Performance & Coordination

• Support on-time shipment performance and SLA deliverables

• Coordinate with Quality, EHS, carriers, and internal stakeholders to resolve shipment issues and compliance concerns

• Identify opportunities to improve hazmat shipping processes and safety practices

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Current DOT and IATA Dangerous Goods certification (required)

• 2+ years of experience preparing and shipping hazardous materials

• Strong working knowledge of hazardous materials classifications and transportation regulations

• Experience supporting audits and regulatory inspections

• High attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance

• Strong communication and organizational skills

• Proficiency with shipping systems and standard office software

Work Environment

• Regulated warehouse

• Exposure to hazardous materials and temperature-controlled environments

• Requires strict adherence to PPE, safety, and security protocols
