We are looking for a graduate or junior consultant (MSc or PhD) specializing in Marine Structural Engineering to join our team at Lerkendal in Trondheim.
As a graduate or junior consultant at Norconsult, you will be involved in projects, collaborate with clients, learn from experienced engineers, and take on real responsibility from day one. Our marine technology team works on a wide range of innovative and complex interdisciplinary marine projects. These include concept development, design and verification of floating closed aquaculture systems, as well as projects within renewable energy and coastal infrastructure.
The team has specialized expertise in the analysis and design of marine structures, and we contribute across all phases, from feasibility studies and conceptual design to detailed engineering and third-party verification.
We are now looking for a motivated and talented engineer who can strengthen our marine structural engineering capabilities and contribute to the continued development of our team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Structural design and analysis of marine structures
- Finite element analyses
- Concept development and design of marine structures, such as floating closed and semi-closed aquaculture containment systems, in collaboration with clients
- Assessment of structural response to environmental loads
- Analysis of slender marine structures and hydroelastic systems, including flexible and membrane structures
- Structural verification against relevant design standards and site conditions
- Collaboration with hydrodynamic and other engineering disciplines
- Preparation of calculations, reports and technical documentation
For us, it is important that you:
- Are in your final year of study (MSc/PhD), or have up to 5 years of relevant experience, in Marine Technology, Structural Engineering or a related discipline, preferably with a specialization in marine structures
- Have strong analytical skills and an interest in structural design and analysis, concept development and numerical modelling
- Are accurate, solution-oriented, and proactive
- Can work well independently and as part of a team
- Contribute to a good social and professional environment
- Have good communication skills in English, written and spoken. Being fluent in Norwegian is an advantage, and candidates that do not speak Norwegian should be motivated to develop their Norwegian language skills
It is also advantageous if you:
- Have knowledge of finite element methods, structural dynamics, fatigue and non-linear structural behavior
- Have knowledge of sea loads and load effects on marine structures
- Have knowledge of one or more of the following materials: steel, composites, concrete or PE
- Are familiar with FE software such as Abaqus, Ansys, DNV SESAM or similar
- Are familiar with 3D modelling and design tools such as Autodesk Inventor or similar
- Are familiar with Python or other programming/scripting languages
