About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate Speech Pathologist to join the Speech Pathology team at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. In this role, you will provide assessment and management for adults with communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders across a diverse range of acute and subacute clinical settings. You will have the opportunity to work across a variety of caseloads, including Neurology, Rehabilitation, Critical Care, Oncology, General Medicine, Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) and @home services. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will deliver evidence-based Speech Pathology services that support positive patient outcomes and contribute to safe and effective transitions of care. You will also have opportunities to contribute to quality improvement, research and service development, while continuing to develop your clinical skills and professional expertise.

Classification: Speech Pathologist Grade 2 VW1-VW4 Grade 2 ($90,235.60 - $103,724.40) per annum.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Assess and manage patients with communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders across acute and subacute settings

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based Speech Pathology assessment and intervention

  • Develop and implement individualised treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team

  • Work across a diverse range of clinical areas, including Neurology, Rehabilitation, Critical Care, Oncology, General Medicine, GEM and @home services

  • Ensure clinical practice aligns with departmental policies, guidelines and current Speech Pathology Australia professional standards

  • Contribute to effective communication and collaboration across the multidisciplinary team

  • Participate in quality improvement, research and service development activities

  • Contribute to a culture of learning, reflective practice and continuous improvement

Your Contribution

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology), Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Master of Speech Pathology or equivalent qualification

  • Eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia

  • Knowledge of Speech Pathology Australia position statements and the Code of Ethics

  • Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills

  • A commitment to evidence-based, person-centred clinical practice

  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • A current Victoria Police Check, or willingness to obtain one

The Speech Pathology Department is committed to providing excellent Speech Pathology services to patients with communication and swallowing disorders across St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. Our highly skilled and dynamic team provides services across the continuum of care and across multiple campuses, including St Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy and St George’s Health Service in Kew.
