With a strong focus on ambulatory specialty care, this role provides the opportunity to independently manage post-operative and surveillance patients while developing expertise in complex wound and ostomy care.

Working closely with surgeons and interdisciplinary teams, the APP plays an important role in coordinating care, supporting patients throughout their surgical journey, and helping optimize outcomes across care settings.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Primarily ambulatory specialty practice
  • Opportunity for autonomous outpatient patient management
  • Strong focus on post-operative care and surveillance
  • Specialized exposure to complex wound and ostomy management
  • Close collaboration with surgeons and interdisciplinary teams
  • No routine call or weekend responsibilities expected
  • Opportunities to participate in research, quality improvement, and professional development
  • Ability to contribute to workflow improvements and specialty program development

Practice Setting

Department: Surgery
Care Model: Primarily ambulatory specialty care with perioperative support
Patient Contact: Approximately 35 hours per week
Call/Weekends: No routine call or weekend coverage expected

What You’ll Do

Provide Specialized Surgical Care

1. Provide autonomous outpatient management for post-operative patients, surveillance populations, and patients requiring complex wound or ostomy care.

2. Conduct histories and physical examinations, perform ongoing clinical assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and provide continued patient education and support.

Support Patients Throughout Their Care

1. Provide education and longitudinal support to help patients navigate their ongoing surgical care.

Collaborate Across the Surgical Team

1. Partner closely with surgeons and interdisciplinary team members to optimize perioperative care and manage complex patient needs.

2. Coordinate transitions across care settings and serve as an advocate for patients throughout their care journey.

Contribute Beyond the Clinic

1. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, workflow development, and process improvement efforts.

2. The role also provides opportunities to engage in research and professional development and contribute to the continued development of the specialty program.

What Success Looks Like

The successful APP will:

  • Meet approximately 35 weekly patient-contact hours
  • Maintain documentation and productivity standards
  • Support efficient clinic throughput
  • Effectively manage complex patient needs
  • Demonstrate strong clinical reasoning and decision-making
  • Communicate effectively with patients, surgeons, and interdisciplinary partners
  • Work independently while maintaining a collaborative practice approach
  • Adapt effectively within a complex care environment

Core Competencies

We’re looking for an APP who brings:

  • Advanced clinical reasoning
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage patients
  • Collaborative approach to patient care
  • Adaptability in complex clinical environments
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care

Ideal Candidate Profile

We’re looking for a board-certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with surgical experience who is comfortable managing complex patients independently and interested in contributing to specialty program development.

  • Board-certified ACNP or PA
  • Surgical experience
  • 1 year of experience preferred
  • Ability to independently manage complex patients
  • Interest in specialty program development

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This position offers an appealing combination of clinical autonomy and physician partnership within a primarily ambulatory surgical setting.

The APP will have the opportunity to build meaningful patient relationships through post-operative care, surveillance, and longitudinal support while developing expertise in complex wound and ostomy management.
