Position Summary
The Fuel Compliance Technician Helper supports the inspection, maintenance, repair, and regulatory compliance of fuel storage and dispensing systems. This position assists with routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to help ensure fuel-system equipment remains safe, operational, and compliant with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented, with a willingness to learn fuel-system inspection, maintenance, and compliance practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary:
- Assist with monthly inspections of fuel tanks, dispensers, piping, leak-detection equipment, spill containment systems, and other fuel-system components.
- Document inspection results, identified deficiencies, corrective actions, and maintenance activities accurately and timely.
- Assist in maintaining fuel systems in compliance with applicable regulatory, environmental, and company requirements.
- Assist qualified technicians with troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of fuel-system equipment.
- Perform basic repairs and component replacements under the direction and supervision of qualified technicians.
- Identify leaks, damaged components, unsafe conditions, and potential compliance issues and promptly report them to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain accurate and organized inspection, maintenance, and repair records.
- Assist with testing and verifying the proper operation of fuel-system equipment following repairs or maintenance.
- Follow all company safety procedures, environmental requirements, and applicable regulatory standards when working with fuel and petroleum products.
- Maintain tools, equipment, work areas, and inspection supplies in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Assist with emergency repairs and corrective actions when fuel-system issues arise.
- Communicate inspection findings, equipment deficiencies, and repair needs to supervisors and other appropriate personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience with fuel systems, automotive or mechanical equipment, construction, maintenance, or a related field is helpful but not required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions, inspection procedures, and safety requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspection and maintenance activities.
- Ability to work independently while also taking directions from experienced technicians.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting and carrying tools, parts, and equipment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with fuel dispensers, underground storage tank systems, leak-detection systems, piping, or petroleum equipment.
- Basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or equipment-repair experience.
- Familiarity with environmental or fuel-system compliance requirements.
- Relevant industry certifications or willingness to obtain required certifications.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills in fuel-system inspection, maintenance, and compliance.
Working Conditions
This position primarily involves working outdoors at fuel stations and other petroleum-related facilities. Employees may be exposed to fuel vapors, petroleum products, machinery, confined or restricted work areas, noise, and varying weather conditions.
Employees are required to follow all established safety procedures and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing job duties.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in awkward or confined positions.
- Ability to lift and carry tools, parts, equipment, and other materials as required.
- Ability to safely operate and use hand and power tools.
- Ability to work around fuel storage and dispensing equipment while following established safety procedures.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks associated with inspection, maintenance, and repair activities.
