The Position

Field Applications Specialist – Mass Spectrometry - Utah

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

The Opportunity

As a Field Applications Specialist – Mass Spectrometry, you will be a key operational member of our Customer Support team, delivering high-touch technical and scientific execution for Roche’s automated mass spectrometry platform, the cobas i601, across customer laboratories in the region.

In this role, you will focus on post-sales technical success—bringing new i601 placements from installation through validation and full go-live status. You will work in close partnership with Lead/Principal FAS colleagues on complex account rollouts, while independently managing standard assay implementations, customer training, regulatory compliance support, and advanced technical troubleshooting.

As a Field Applications Specialist, you will:

  • Post-Sales Technical Implementation: Lead and assist with the technical onboarding, setup, and assay implementation of cobas i601 systems in customer laboratories. Ensure the platform and automated sample handling meet strict technical and performance specifications.

  • Account Collaboration: Partner closely with Advanced Applications Specialist team members on large or complex customer accounts—executing on account strategies, assisting in comprehensive workflow builds, and providing reliable scientific support.

  • Method Validation & Compliance Execution: Guide laboratory personnel through day-to-day assay validation and verification protocols (CLSI, CAP, CLIA). Assist customers in generating data packages required to meet regulatory compliance standards.

  • On-Site Analytical & Technical Troubleshooting: Serve as a dedicated on-site resource for resolving operational, software, and assay performance issues. Conduct root-cause analysis on analytical anomalies (e.g., peak resolution, matrix interference, calibration drift) to minimize system downtime.

  • Routine Account Management: Maintain strong working relationships with bench technologists, supervisors, and lab managers to drive consistent system utilization and high customer satisfaction throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Voice of Customer Escalations: Document product performance issues, user experience feedback, and workflow pain points, escalating trends to leads, technical support, and commercial teams.

  • Operational Excellence: Maintain accurate CRM records of all customer interactions, service activities, and technical cases. Complete administrative tasks (travel, expense reporting) in accordance with Roche guidelines.

This is a field-base role.

Travel: Overnight travel within the designated region is expected > 50% of the time, based on customer training and implementation schedules.

A company vehicle is provided with this position.
