Position Summary
The Feed Commodity Merchant serves as a key connector across the agricultural supply chain, creating value for customers through merchandising expertise, market intelligence, and logistics optimization. This role combines relationship management, commodity merchandising, and transportation strategy to move feed ingredients efficiently while identifying opportunities that drive profitable growth for both customers and the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Buy and sell feed ingredients, with a primary focus on Dried Distillers Grains (DDGs), to create value for customers and deliver profitable growth
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and logistics providers
- Analyze market fundamentals, freight dynamics, and supply chain economics to identify merchandising and arbitrage opportunities
- Negotiate and execute commodity contracts, including pricing, delivery, transportation, and payment terms
- Coordinate rail and truck logistics to ensure efficient movement of commodities
- Monitor positions, contracts, and transactions to ensure accurate execution and risk management
- Leverage technology, data, and market insights to improve processes and support commercial decision-making
- Develop new business opportunities and expand existing customer relationships

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required (or the equivalent in work experience); Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business, Finance, Supply Chain or related major/field preferred
2-5 years of experience in commodity merchandising, trading, logistics, supply chain, or a related commercial role
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and drive process improvements through technology and innovation
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with a proactive approach to business development
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, volatile market environment and adapt to changing business conditions
Agricultural industry experience or background preferred
