Faculty Lecturer, Department of Bioengineering

The Department of Bioengineering at McGill University invites applications for a full-time Faculty Lecturer position in Bioengineering. The appointment will begin with an initial two-year term and may subsequently lead to an indefinite appointment, subject to performance and University policies. The candidate will have the expertise to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in bioengineering.

Established in 2012, the Department of Bioengineering is the newest department to join McGill University’s renowned Faculty of Engineering. ​The Department focuses on three major directions: biological materials and mechanics; biomolecular and cellular engineering; and biomedical diagnostics and high throughput screening.

The Department is committed to excellence in teaching in its undergraduate and graduate programs including B.Eng. in Bioengineering, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biological and Biomedical Engineering, and M.Eng. (non-thesis) in Biomanufacturing and values the service contributions of its Faculty members to the University, the profession, and society at large.

The expected start date is: December 1, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties performed by the Faculty Lecturer-include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Contribute to the development and delivery of the undergraduate and graduate courses and programs.
• Teach credit courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level – a minimum of 15 credits per academic year, and identify appropriate assessment tools for each course.
• Ensure that course content and delivery maintain high academic standards
• Implement equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) considerations in teaching and learning activities.
• Review course evaluations and identify and propose areas of improvement
• Ensure that university and department policies, guidelines, and procedures are met.
• Serve on the departmental Program Committee and on other committees as needed.
• Participate in communication with appropriate professional associations and business organizations to ensure that departmental programs are in alignment with industry needs.
• Support and be involved in other activities or projects as required, e.g., grant applications, supervision of teaching labs.
• Contribute to the development of on-line versions for selected courses related to the M.Eng. biomanufacturing program and M.Sc. concentration in Synthetic Biology

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• Candidates must have a PhD in Chemical, Biochemical or Biological Engineering.
• Candidates with direct experience in bioprocessing and manufacturing of biologics including advanced process analytical technologies and process digitalization will be preferred.
• Candidates with training and experience in bioinformatics and statistical analysis will be preferred.
• Evidence of experience in outstanding teaching activities at university level
• A minimum of five years of professional experience in industry, public sector, or academia.
• Membership or eligibility for the membership in a Canadian professional engineering association.
• Demonstrated skills in educational needs assessment and all aspects of program development and delivery.
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
• Interest and demonstrated ability to keep abreast of advances in the field of Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences and Artificial Intelligence.
• Dedication to an environment that supports equity, diversity, and inclusion to address in their application their ability to teach and mentor in this context.
• Strong record of scientific contributions.
• Registration in a Canadian professional engineering association is required within the first 5 years following hiring.
