Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Regional Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Exceptional Student Services
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually, based on experience
Employment Classification: Full-Time

Location: Phoenix Metropolitan Area (Hybrid; Approximately 60% On-Site / 40% Remote)
Frequent travel to AMS campuses throughout the Phoenix area with occasional travel to Tucson as business needs require.

Position Summary

AMS Impact Group is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Regional Coordinator to support the implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement of special education services across multiple Academies of Math and Science campuses.

Reporting to the Director of Exceptional Student Services, the ESS Regional Coordinator serves as the primary regional support partner for campus leaders, special education teachers, and case managers. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state special education regulations, supporting the implementation of high-quality special education services, coaching school-based staff, and partnering with campuses to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.

The ideal candidate is an experienced special education professional with a strong understanding of IDEA, Arizona special education regulations, IEP development, compliance monitoring, and collaborative problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

ESS Program Support

  • Serve as the primary Exceptional Student Services representative for assigned campuses.

  • Support the implementation of special education programs and ensure consistency across the region.

  • Partner with campus administrators, special education teachers, and case managers to ensure students receive appropriate services.

  • Provide consultation regarding special education procedures, instructional supports, and program implementation.

  • Assist the Director of Exceptional Student Services with departmental initiatives and special projects.

Compliance & Student Services

  • Review evaluation reports (MET/RED), Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and related documentation to ensure compliance with IDEA, Arizona Department of Education requirements, and network policies.

  • Monitor special education timelines and support campuses in maintaining compliance.

  • Attend evaluation, eligibility, and IEP meetings to provide guidance and support as needed.

  • Assist with coordinating evaluations and establishing related services for eligible students.

  • Maintain and organize required special education documentation to support state monitoring, audits, and compliance reviews.

Campus Partnership & Staff Support

  • Provide coaching and ongoing support to special education teachers and case managers.

  • Respond to questions regarding special education processes, compliance requirements, and service delivery.

  • Collaborate with campus leadership to address student needs and support effective implementation of ESS programs.

  • Foster positive working relationships with educators, families, and related service providers.

Operational Excellence

  • Travel regularly to assigned campuses throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area and occasionally to Tucson to provide coaching, monitoring, and operational support.

  • Participate in network professional development and departmental meetings.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to strengthen systems, procedures, and compliance practices.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Student Services.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate required (Mild/Moderate endorsement preferred).

  • Minimum of three (3) years of Special Education teaching experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading MET/RED and IEP meetings.

  • Experience supporting the implementation of special education services and compliance requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Arizona special education laws and regulations.

  • Strong understanding of the special education evaluation and IEP process.

  • Knowledge of compliance monitoring, documentation requirements, and state timelines.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to coach and support educators while maintaining positive working relationships.

  • Ability to analyze documentation, identify compliance concerns, and recommend solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Arizona Mild/Moderate Special Education Certification.

  • Experience serving in a Special Education Coordinator, Lead Teacher, or similar leadership role.

  • Experience supporting multiple campuses or schools.

  • Experience working within a charter school network.

  • Familiarity with electronic IEP management systems and compliance tracking tools.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work environment with approximately 60% on-site campus support and 40% remote work.

  • Frequent travel throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area with occasional travel to Tucson.

  • Occasional evening meetings and professional development events.

  • Extended periods of computer work, documentation review, and virtual meetings.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and maintain the ability to travel between campuses.
