We are seeking a Process Engineer to support manufacturing operations and engineering projects within a dynamic drug product environment.
This role will focus on providing engineering expertise across equipment lifecycle activities, driving technical improvements, and ensuring reliable, compliant, and cost-effective solutions that support site and project objectives.

 

Job Description

Major accountabilities:

• Execute engineering activities including design, implementation, qualification, maintenance, and continuous improvement within the assigned technical area.
• Develop and implement reliable, cost-effective technical solutions while ensuring quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Provide engineering support for manufacturing equipment, utilities, and facility systems.
• Lead or contribute to equipment, utility, and facility improvement projects focused on productivity, energy efficiency, environmental compliance, and maintenance optimization.
• Identify and evaluate technical solutions to address operational and project-related challenges.
• Prepare equipment specifications, system requirements, and project documentation, including User Requirement Specifications (URS).
• Develop project cost estimates and support Value Improvement Reviews to optimize project execution and investment decisions.
• Obtain and coordinate required permits for maintenance, calibration, and project activities.
• Support the installation, commissioning, and lifecycle management of manufacturing equipment and systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery and achievement of site objectives.

Essential requirements:

• Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, with experience in process engineering within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of aseptic/sterile manufacturing processes; exposure to compounding, assembly, packaging, or mechanical engineering is an advantage.
• Proven ability to identify and implement reliable, cost-effective technical solutions while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Strong project management, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills, including preparation of equipment specifications, URS, cost estimates, and engineering reports.
• Fluent English is required; German is highly desirable. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and international teams with a hands-on, proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

 

For this role, we offer a temporary contract of 2 years.

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is €65,605.54 /year (on a full time basis). We also offer a potential market oriented excess payment in line with your experience and qualifications.

The salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.  

In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on certain performance parameters. Further details will be provided during the application process.
