At LG Energy Solution Arizona, Inc., the Engineer II, Smart Factory (AX/DX) will play a key role in supporting the planning, development, implementation, validation, and continuous improvement of AI-driven manufacturing and automation solutions across battery manufacturing operations. This role connects manufacturing needs with automation, data, and production technology to improve equipment efficiency, process capability, traceability, reliability, and operational decision-making. The position collaborates with production, equipment, quality, IT/MES, parent headquarters, and external vendors throughout the project lifecycle, from requirements definition and design review through installation, commissioning, stabilization, and ongoing support.
Responsibilities:
- Review manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for automation, digitalization, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled improvement.
- Plan and coordinate deployment of AX/DX solutions, including remote operations, autonomous or automated control, product traceability, fault detection and classification, vision inspection, and preventive or predictive maintenance.
- Participate in design reviews, specification reviews, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, functionality checks, performance validation, and production stabilization.
- Troubleshoot and maintain AX /DX systems and related production technology, including PC-based control systems, markers, vision cameras, sensors, interfaces, and network-connected equipment.
- Analyze manufacturing and system data to support root-cause analysis, system optimization, and improvements in equipment efficiency and availability.
- Create and maintain project documentation, issue logs, technical standards, standard operating procedures, test records, and weekly or monthly status reports.
- Coordinate project schedules, action items, risks, and deliverables with internal stakeholders, parent headquarters, and technology vendors.
- Support AX/DX investment planning, budget tracking, vendor evaluation, equipment and software procurement, and lifecycle management.
- Promote safe implementation by participating in technical risk reviews and following site safety, environmental, cybersecurity, and change-management requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering, factory automation, manufacturing IT, AI transformation, or a related technical environment.
- Experience supporting equipment or system installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, or continuous improvement projects.
- Experience with data analysis projects, production system projects, or AI-enabled manufacturing solutions preferred.
- Knowledge of battery manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, or other highly automated production environments preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production teams, parent headquarters, and global sites.
- Occasional domestic travel may be required to support training, suppliers, project execution, or collaboration with other sites
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and implementation of recurrence-prevention measures.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional projects and communicate technical details effectively with internal stakeholders, headquarters teams, and external vendors.
- Knowledge of PLCs, industrial networks, PC-based control systems, machine vision, sensors, markers, and production traceability preferred.
- Programming and data analysis skills using Python, C#, SQL, Power BI, or similar tools preferred.
- Knowledge of machine learning, advanced analytics, or AI-enabled manufacturing applications preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for report writing, presentations, project tracking, and data analysis.
- Experience working in a multicultural or globally distributed organization preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Korean preferred, but not required.
