The Chevron Electrical Power Engineer will be a member of the Downstream, Midstream, and Chemical Operations Performance Electrical Power Team, providing electrical power designs engineering and support. The Electrical Power Engineer plays a key role supporting the U.S. Refinery’s mission to operate safely, reliably, predictably, and profitably. This involves taking a lead role in understanding and evaluating electrical system performance, working closely with Operations and Maintenance to troubleshoot equipment, and following through with proactive design and execution of engineering work packages, engineering analysis and project deliverables.

The Electrical Power Engineer role will provide engineering and support at both an equipment and system level including medium voltage power distribution systems, motor controls, switch gear, UPS systems, and substations up to 138kV. The Electrical Power Engineer may also serve as a local Subject Matter Expert (SME) for electrical power and, as such, will mentor and guide other electrical engineers through troubleshooting and engineering on lower complexity projects.

As a member of the centralized Operations Performance Team, the Electrical Power Engineer and the majority of their work will be located in the Salt Lake Refinery in Salt Lake City, Utah however, support of all 5 US refineries including El Segundo and Richmond in CA, Pascagoula in MS, and Pasadena in TX will be required with travel to other locations expected to be approximately twice a year.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

• Provide electrical power engineering support for facility-wide electrical infrastructure improvement initiatives that require collaboration and leadership skills necessary to partner with multiple stakeholders. Sphere of influence ranges from working with Operations personnel in the field on a specific piece of equipment to partnering with technical personnel at the Manufacturing and Global level to improve Chevron performance, operation, reliability, and safety across all Chevron refineries.
• Perform and support various technical studies, including the use of electrical distribution modelling tools, to improve plant safety, reliability, throughput and economics. Coordinate and collaborate with local utility company representatives.
• Perform electrical power engineering analysis, consultation and project management for electrical power projects. Develop and manage Engineering Work Orders for electrical projects and install or replace complex equipment such as motor controls and substations. Develop purchase specifications for engineered electrical equipment ensuring that the equipment meets company and industry standards and manage the technical fabrication and factory acceptance testing requirements for procuring equipment undefined.
• Provide urgent electrical power engineering field support, working with Operations and other technical teams, to troubleshoot unplanned issues with medium voltage equipment and scope medium voltage electrical power repairs. Solutions often include the development and selection of alternatives considering reliability, total cost of ownership, operability and health, safety, and environmental impacts. Support implementation of solutions through Routine Maintenance, Turnaround execution and project construction, commissioning, and startup.
• Provide guidance for technical inquiries, issue technical recommendations, provide equipment and system troubleshooting, improve and standardize electrical power engineering tools and support the development, improvement, and standardization of electrical power engineering work processes.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to develop electrical engineers, partnering with them to resolve equipment and project related issues. Review and approve Engineering Work Orders of varying complexity, size, and scope. Be a role model for the Chevron Way and Chevron’s safety culture.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical power engineering.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and complex problem-solving skills.
• Experience in engineering design of utility and complex process facility electrical power HV/MV/LV distribution systems including substations, switch gear, motor controls, distribution protection schemes, protection relays, ASDs, transformers, UPS systems, circuit breakers, synchronous motors with control and protection schemes, and DC power systems.
• Experience in electrical distribution system protection coordination and the use of power distribution modeling software for performing electrical studies (LF, SC, AF, Motor starting) on new design projects as well as troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional engineering license.
• Experience with eTAP power distribution modelling program.
• Experience in Project Management.
• Experience in Electrical Area Classification assessment, boundary generation and documentation, and application following industry standards.

• The anticipated salary range for this position is $137,600– $237,800.
