Endpoint Application Packaging Engineer

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced Endpoint Application Packaging Engineer who is passionate about delivering secure, automated, and maintainable enterprise application solutions across a large-scale endpoint environment. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in application packaging, scripting, automation, testing, and lifecycle management, ensuring applications are deployed efficiently, securely, and consistently across managed Windows endpoints.

You will play a key role in enabling employees to access approved business applications through governed self-service delivery models, supporting the organization's transition away from permanent Local Administrator Rights while maintaining a seamless end-user experience.

Who you will report to
This role reports to the Manager, Digital Workspace within the User Experience, GBS Technology function. As part of the Application Engineering capability within Enterprise Application Services, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including Application Portfolio Management, Cybersecurity, Service Management, the Service Desk, Business and Application Owners, Procurement and Software Asset Management, Enterprise Architecture, and external software vendors where required. While the role involves extensive collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, decision-making authority remains within the scope of the Endpoint Application Packaging Engineer's engineering responsibilities.

What you will work on

• Package and deploy enterprise applications for managed Windows endpoints.
• Create and maintain application packages, scripts, and automation solutions.
• Test, troubleshoot, and optimize application installations, upgrades, and removals.
• Support secure application delivery by performing technical checks and working with cybersecurity teams.
• Manage the full application lifecycle, including updates, patching, version upgrades, and retirement.
• Prepare applications for release and support deployment activities across the organization.
• Identify opportunities to improve application delivery through automation and self-service solutions.
• Manage application packaging requests and maintain accurate records in ServiceNow.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles, and operational runbooks.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of application engineering standards, processes, and best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Digital Workspace, Cybersecurity, Service Management, and business teams to ensure reliable application delivery.
• Ensure compliance with established engineering, security, and governance standards.

This role is focused on enabling secure, reliable, and efficient application delivery for employees across the organization.

Qualifications you have for this role

Mandatory requirements

Competency

• Ownership and follow-through — drives assigned applications through their full engineering lifecycle, not only initial packaging.
• Analytical, repeatability-oriented problem solving and a lifecycle/automation mindset, rather than a one-off “make this installer work once” approach.

Technical Skills 

• Approximately 4–7 years of relevant enterprise endpoint/application packaging experience, with demonstrable hands-on engineering responsibility — not solely tool familiarity. Exceptional candidates should not be excluded solely on tenure where engineering depth is demonstrable.
• Demonstrable hands-on experience across enterprise Windows application packaging, including several of: Microsoft Intune, SCCM/MECM, Win32 application deployment, MSI, MSIX, EXE silent installation.
• PowerShell as a meaningful, hands-on competency, including Windows Installer, registry, Windows services, filesystem, and scheduled tasks.
• Detection logic, requirement rules, dependencies, supersedence, application upgrade and uninstall engineering.
• Windows 10/11 enterprise troubleshooting.

Non-Technical Skills 

• Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical risk clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Disciplined technical documentation and ability to work across global, distributed teams.

Preferred Requirements 

Competency 

• Experience in a mature enterprise application packaging environment, including legacy SCCM/MECM environments transitioning to modern management.
• A continuous-improvement mindset oriented toward repeatability, lifecycle ownership and automation, rather than making an individual installer work once.

Technical Skills 

• PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit (PSADT); Microsoft Graph/Intune APIs; Git; Azure DevOps or CI/CD-style packaging automation.
• AppLocker/App Control for Business; code signing and PKI/certificate concepts; Microsoft Defender and vulnerability-management concepts; Endpoint Privilege Management.
• ServiceNow ITSM and SAM familiarity; application compatibility testing and sandbox/virtualised test environments.
• Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate (or successor), ITIL Foundation, or relevant PowerShell/automation training — valued as supporting evidence, not a substitute for hands-on engineering evidence.

Non-Technical Skills 

• Collaborative working style with Cybersecurity and Digital Workspace.
