Salary:

  • Full-Time: $150,000 - $220,000 per year
  • Part-Time: $70,000 - $80,000 per year

Location: 69 Huber Village Blvd., Westerville, OH 43081

Schedule:

  • Full-Time: 6:00pm – 2:00am, rotating (5 on, 2 off, 2 on, 5 off)
  • Part-Time: Every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday (6 shifts per month)

Westerville Veterinary Clinic is hiring an Emergency Veterinarian to provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care to a variety of animals, including dogs and cats.

Our ideal candidate has 6 months to 4 years of post-graduation experience and is ready for a more positive ER experience after working in a traditional emergency hospital environment that may not have been the right fit.

What to Expect

  • A schedule that respects your time. We stop accepting new emergency cases 1 hour before the end of each shift, giving you dedicated time to complete medical records, finish patient care, and leave on time. Our evening ER shifts end at 2:00 AM instead of 8:00 AM, making it easier to maintain a healthy sleep routine, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy your days off. You'll work a predictable rotating schedule of 5 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, and 5 days off (full-time) or every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (part-time), with the flexibility to swap shifts with teammates when additional time off is needed. Whether you prefer to enjoy the extended breaks or pick up occasional relief shifts for extra income, the choice is yours.
  • Continuity of care without the burden. Our daytime ER and general practice teams continue caring for your hospitalized patients, providing follow-up appointments and client communication so you can leave knowing your cases are in good hands. Many emergency patients become lifelong clients of the practice.
  • A career built to last. We believe emergency medicine should be both rewarding and sustainable. Our approach allows you to enjoy the variety and excitement of ER while maintaining a healthy balance between your career and personal life.
  • A 5 to 1 staff to doctor ratio. You'll have the support you need to practice efficiently and deliver exceptional patient care.
  • All the benefits you deserve. Health, dental, vision, retirement, company matching 401(k), a contract renewal bonus, paid AVMA and OVMA memberships, Ohio veterinary and DEA licenses, Veterinary Information Network (VIN) membership, a generous continuing education stipend, professional development support, company paid professional liability insurance, relocation assistance, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, an employee assistance program, and employee discounts. Doctors who work a minimum of 30 hours per week are eligible for full-time benefits.
  • Partnership opportunities through Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP). More than 260 veterinarian partners co own practices across 185 locations. VPP provides operational, marketing, and financial support, allowing you to focus on practicing great medicine while offering a pathway to ownership for doctors interested in partnership.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or VMD degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid veterinary license in the state of Ohio

About Westerville Veterinary Clinic

For more than 50 years, Westerville Veterinary Clinic has been a trusted part of the Westerville community, providing exceptional veterinary care while building lasting relationships with generations of pet owners. Today, the hospital has grown into a thriving 9 doctor small animal practice that offers general practice, urgent care, and evening emergency services under one roof. This unique model allows doctors to practice a diverse mix of medicine while providing continuity of care for patients, from routine wellness visits and preventative medicine to advanced diagnostics, surgery, hospitalization, urgent care, and emergency cases.

The hospital is equipped with the technology and resources needed to practice high-quality medicine, including an in-house IDEXX laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, surgical suites, advanced anesthesia monitoring, and access to 24/7 board certified radiology interpretation. Doctors are encouraged to collaborate, discuss cases, and continue expanding their skills. For those interested in emergency medicine, the hospital also provides opportunities to develop advanced surgical skills, including GDVs, pyometras, C sections, splenectomies, and foreign body surgeries, with experienced veterinarians available for guidance and support.

One of Westerville Veterinary Clinic's greatest strengths is its collaborative culture. With 9 veterinarians, experienced registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and a dedicated client care team, doctors are surrounded by knowledgeable professionals who genuinely enjoy working together. The support staff plays an active role in patient care, allowing veterinarians to focus on diagnostics, treatment planning, surgery, and client communication rather than routine technical tasks. Whether you're seeking a second opinion on a challenging case or extra hands during a busy shift, help is always available.

The hospital's evening emergency service was intentionally designed to provide the excitement and variety of emergency medicine while avoiding many of the challenges associated with traditional overnight practice. Rather than working until the early morning hours, emergency veterinarians finish their shifts at 2:00 AM, and new emergency cases are no longer accepted during the final hour of each shift. This gives doctors dedicated time to complete patient care, finish medical records, and leave on schedule. Hospitalized patients receive seamless continuity of care through collaboration with the daytime emergency and general practice teams, allowing emergency doctors to go home knowing their patients remain in excellent hands.

Above all, Westerville Veterinary Clinic is committed to creating an environment where veterinarians can build long, rewarding careers. The leadership team believes that practicing great medicine starts with taking care of the people providing it. Through mentorship, collaboration, advanced medical resources, a sustainable schedule, and a genuinely supportive culture, the hospital has created an environment where doctors can continue growing professionally while maintaining a healthy balance between their careers and personal lives.

We are dedicated to establishing a culture that celebrates all forms of diversity and allows us to be an inclusive service provider in this community.
