ABOUT US

SCHADS Level 3 | Glenorchy, TAS, Australia

Part-time 2 Days a week

Why this role matters

When life throws curveballs, you could be the person who helps someone catch their breath again. As an Emergency Relief Assessor, you’ll be a calm, compassionate guide for individuals and families facing financial hardship — listening to their story, assessing their needs, and opening doors to practical support when it matters most.

This is heart-led work with real impact. No two days are the same, and every conversation counts.

How you will make an impact:

  • Create safe, respectful spaces for community members through thoughtful interviews and Emergency Relief assessments, aligned with Doorways guidelines
  • Use your judgement and empathy to determine the right assistance, in line with Doorways standards of practice
  • Be a connector — linking people to the right services through referrals and advocacy, both within The Salvation Army and the wider community
  • Tackle complex situations with confidence, escalating matters when needed to ensure people don’t fall through the cracks
  • Keep things tight behind the scenes by maintaining accurate, up-to-date client records using TSA systems, including SAMIS
  • Keep an eye on wellbeing and safety by identifying and reporting risks early
  • Help shape better services by spotting gaps and sharing ideas that improve how support is delivered

What you will bring

  • A minimum Certificate IV in Community Services or a related field. Preferred Diploma in Community Services
  • Real-world experience in the community services sector
  • A genuine respect for diversity and experience supporting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Fluency in speaking English, preferred second language
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and stay cool under pressure
  • A current and valid Working with Children’s Check
  • What we offer
  • NFP salary packaging ($15,900 tax free) plus meals and entertainment benefits
  • Employee Assistance Program - Independent confidential counselling service
  • Financial, retail and lifestyle discounts and benefits
  • Discounted health and fitness programs through Fitness Passport
  • Up to 8 weeks leave per year through our purchase leave scheme
  • Generous Parental Leave offering of 12 weeks
  • Up to 5 days paid leave per year to support a TSA program or activity
  • An inclusive culture of dedicated, passionate and professional team members
  • Positively supporting and impacting the lives of others through your career contribution

How to apply

If you are passionate about making a difference and ready to join a team dedicated to creating positive change, please submit your resume and cover letter detailing your alignment with the requirements of the role.
