ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are seeking exceptional Electrical Engineers to join our growing team in Memphis and help design, build, and optimize on-site power generation for SpaceXAI's high-density AI supercomputing facilities. This role owns plant electrical systems for gas turbine generation — from generator, excitation, and synchronization through 34.5 kV collect/export, protection, e-houses, blackstart, and switching.
You will collaborate across electrical, mechanical, power systems, and construction teams to deliver reliable, massive-scale generation. This is a full-time, onsite role based in the Memphis region.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own plant electrical systems for on-site gas turbine generation supporting AI superclusters, including generators, excitation, synchronization, auxiliaries, and balance-of-plant electrical
- Design and engineer 34.5 kV collect and export systems, protection and control, e-houses, blackstart capability, and related medium-voltage infrastructure
- Serve as switching authority for plant electrical systems, including switching procedures, isolation, clearance, and energization
- Develop single-line diagrams, protection & control schematics, relay settings, and interconnection designs
- Perform detailed power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, transient stability, harmonics) using ETAP, PSS/E, or equivalent tools
- Integrate generation with plant systems, 34.5 kV collect/export, and downstream data center loads
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (NERC, ERCOT, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, UL) and support permitting and utility coordination
- Support equipment specification, vendor selection, factory testing, site commissioning, and energization
- Conduct failure mode analysis (FMEA), root cause investigations, and reliability modeling to achieve extreme uptime targets
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new facility builds, capacity expansions, and continuous improvement of power standard
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics or electrical engineering technology
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with gas turbine generators, excitation, synchronization, islanded operation, and blackstart
- Experience owning plant electrical systems, including 34.5 kV collect/export, protection, e-houses, and switching authority
- Background with data centers, hyperscale facilities, or large on-site power infrastructure (>50 MW)
- Knowledge of ERCOT, NERC reliability standards, and utility interconnection processes
- Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and operations of power systems
- Track record of innovation or high-impact delivery in power infrastructure projects
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Perform hands-on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters or at heights
- Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed; flexibility required
- Remain focused while working in hazardous environments, while wearing appropriate PPE
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
- Travel up to 50% to other locations
- Valid driver’s license
