Position Title: EHS Environmental Engineer

Position Summary:

The Environmental Engineer or Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations while promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization. This role supports operational excellence by identifying environmental risks, conducting impact assessments, developing and implementing sound environmental management systems, and driving continuous improvement.  This Environmental Specialist serves as SME for environmental aspects of manufacturing and construction of the facility to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. He or She partners closely with the project team, manufacturing groups, engineering, and site leadership teams to ensure compliance with EPA regulations, reduce environmental impact, and proper management of wastes generated at the facility.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Manufacturing Operations & Hazardous Waste Management

· Monitor chemical handling, storage, and disposal processes used in PV cell production (such as silicon processing, etching acids, and heavy metal traces).

· Design, optimize, and oversee industrial wastewater treatment and scrubber systems to neutralize toxic air and water emissions.

· Determine hazardous waste, ensure proper storage, labeling, inspection and handle manifests for shipping.

· Conduct hazardous-waste management studies to improve chemical recovery, recycling, and waste reduction streams.

· Develop a legal register maintained covering federal (OSHA/EPA), state (IDEM) and local requirements, with periodic compliance evaluation

· Maintains all necessary permits, and EPA hazardous waste generator ID for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance.

· Develop and implement EMS and lead ISO 14001 / 45001 certification.

· Partner with the facility to monitor air emissions and record permit conditions, with deviation reporting

· Provide environmental awareness training and RCRA generator training.

· Develop stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plan).

· Identify environmental aspects and evaluate impacts after production begins.

· Investigate and record all environmental incidents, partnering with the necessary parties to resolve any identified corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

 

2. Construction & Site Mitigation

· Evaluate and perform environmental impact assessments for new manufacturing facility construction or plant expansions.

· Monitor field activities during construction to prevent soil erosion, control runoff, and manage construction waste.

· Collaborate with construction contractors, civil engineers, and safety managers to ensure green building and safe site practices.

· Ensures that appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental hazards exist.

· Obtain required permits: air permit, wastewater/pretreatment, EPA hazardous waste generator ID.

· Completes all regulatory reporting requirements (Fire, OSHA, EPA)

· Assists in conducting environmental training and communication programs (i.e. Environmental Awareness, HAZMAT, Spill Response, etc.).

· Assist in the consolidation and disposal of hazardous waste

 

Qualifications and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree or above major in environment science or a related branch like chemical engineering

· Minimum of 8 years progressively responsible experience in an Environmental-related field, preferably responsibility of environmental management in manufacturing environment.

· Demonstrate a good working knowledge of best practices and environmental regulations of EPA including federal, state, and local.

Experience and knowledge covering key environmental laws, such as the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act

· Strong sense of responsibility, highly motivated, forward thinking, and proactive.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

CS Powertech offers a competitive salary plus fully comprehensive benefits and performance bonus package based on an annual objective achievement. Our generous benefits package includes a 401(k) Retirement Plan, medical/dental/life/disability program, PTO and sick days. This is a full-time position.
