Job Description:

NOTE: This role is based in New York City and encourages a minimum of two days per week in the SoHo office. Some roles or teams may require additional in-office attendance if the essential functions of the role require it.

THE OPPORTUNITY 

Editorial Assistant, Trade Publishing, will assist the Editorial Director and Executive Editor, Harry Potter Publishing, primarily providing administrative and editorial support on all core Harry Potter titles, including frontlist publishing and backlist development, as well as select other children’s book titles. This position provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of children’s books, to develop editorial skills, and to engage in publishing strategy on high-profile titles in a fast-paced environment.

Please note this position requires a minimum of two days per week working in-office at Scholastic’s NYC (Soho) location. Additional in-office attendance may be required if the essential functions of the role require it.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide editorial support for all frontlist and backlist Harry Potter titles, including initial review of routing material; coordination with production, design, and freelancers; drafting of copy and metadata; review of proofs; and management of reprint corrections.

• Provide administrative support, including scheduling of meetings, note-taking, preparation of presentation and meeting materials, mailings, file management, research, etc.

• Provide editorial support on select other titles, ranging from board books and picture books to graphic novels, as needed; this may include review of routing passes, drafting of copy and transmittals, and evaluation of new submissions.

• Coordinate cross-departmentally with Sales, Marketing, Publicity, and Scholastic Reading Events to manage all information and material requests.

• Participate in ideation of new publishing/backlist opportunities
