City of Hope’s growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and cancer treatment centers and outpatient facilities in the Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix areas.

The successful candidate:

The Executive Director, Strategy, Growth & Performance serves as the senior strategy and growth leader for the entity, responsible for translating enterprise strategic priorities into local market execution while advancing sustainable growth, business development, market expansion, and measurable performance outcomes. This role connects system strategy with entity-level priorities by developing market-informed growth plans, identifying new business and partnership opportunities, evaluating investment priorities, and driving initiatives that expand patient access, strengthen referral channels, improve competitive positioning, and support long-term financial and operational sustainability.

Operating within a hybrid system model, the Executive Director partners with system strategy leadership, entity executives, physician leaders, and operational partners to build a disciplined approach to strategy execution, growth planning, and value realization.The role is accountable for ensuring that local market opportunities, service line expansion, strategic partnerships, affiliations, and business development activities are aligned with enterprise governance and investment standards and are tracked against defined outcomes such as market share growth, referral volume, patient access, service line performance, financial contribution, operational readiness, initiative milestones, and realized strategic value.

Key Deliverables:

  • Entity strategic plan and multi-year roadmap

  • System/entity strategy alignment deliverable that clearly maps entity priorities, growth initiatives,investment proposals, and execution plans to enterprise strategic priorities, IFSP requirements, and measurable value realization outcomes.

  • Entity-level investment proposals and business cases.

  • Local market growth plan identifying priority service lines, geographic opportunities, referral channel opportunities, access gaps, competitor dynamics, and growth targets.

  • Strategic initiative portfolio and execution plans.

  • Strategic partnership, affiliation, and business development pipeline with opportunity stages, sponsors,decision milestones, financial assumptions, risks and expected impact.

  • Partnership and affiliation opportunity assessments evaluating strategic fit, market need, financial return,operational readiness, regulatory considerations, and implementation risk.

  • Business cases for growth investments, including market rationale, volume assumptions, capital andresource needs, ROI, timeline, dependencies, and value realization measures.

  • Service line expansion plans defining target populations, access model, physician alignment, capacityrequirements, projected volume growth, and performance metrics.

  • Referral and physician alignment strategy to strengthen referral relationships, improve networkconnectivity, and support market share growth.

  • Market access and ambulatory growth roadmap outlining opportunities to expand points of care, improvepatient access, and support entity growth objectives. Competitive market assessments and opportunity analyses.

  • Strategic partnership, affiliation, and M&A recommendations with clear decision criteria, governance path,risks, and implementation considerations.

  • Growth performance dashboard tracking referral volume, patient access, market share, service line volume,contribution margin, initiative milestones, and realized value.

  • Quarterly growth and business development review summarizing pipeline activity, approved opportunities,stalled initiatives, risks, decisions needed, and progress against growth targets

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field.

  • 10 years of experience in healthcare strategy, planning, or operations

  • 7 or more years in a leadership or management role within complex provider organizations
