  • Salary Academic Level D ($176,883 - $194,868 p.a.) or Academic Level E ($227,847 p.a.) + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements

  • Based at the Bundoora campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About the Role
The Discipline Lead, Medical Radiations is a senior academic leadership role responsible for shaping the strategic direction, academic quality, research performance and external engagement of the Medical Radiations discipline within the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences. The role will provide people leadership and discipline-specific governance across Medical Radiations education, research and professional practice, with a focus on strengthening program quality, student outcomes, accreditation readiness, workforce relevance and academic culture. The Discipline Lead will also build the discipline’s research engagement by connecting staff with productive research networks, supporting emerging areas of scholarly activity, and strengthening partnerships with clinical, industry, government and professional bodies. They will lead and support academic staff, foster a high-performing and collaborative discipline culture, and contribute to the School’s broader strategic priorities through teaching, research supervision, governance and academic leadership at School, College and University levels.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and review Medical Radiations award programs, curriculum quality, student experience, accreditation requirements and alignment with professional practice expectations and continuous improvement in learning and teaching outcomes.

  • Evidence of strategic academic leadership within a discipline, School or University setting, including the ability to lead staff, build trust and accountability, support a positive and inclusive culture, contribute to shared goals, and advance the profile and sustainability of Medical Radiations education and research.

  • Demonstrated national distinction and an internationally recognised profile in research, scholarship and/or translational practice relevant to Medical Radiations, including medical imaging, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, clinical education, scholarship of teaching and learning, health policy, clinical guideline development, workforce development or a closely related field, with the capacity to engage staff and partners in research and scholarly activity that strengthens the discipline’s scholarly profile, educational quality and professional impact.

  • Proven ability to build and sustain research activity in Medical Radiations or related health disciplines, including attracting external funding, developing research teams and strengthening partnerships with clinical, industry, government or professional bodies.

  • Experience attracting, supervising and mentoring higher degree by research candidates in Medical Radiations, health sciences or related areas to support strong research outcomes and research culture.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead improvements in teaching quality, assessment, simulation, clinical learning and student readiness for professional practice in Medical Radiations, including the ability to support staff to adopt evidence-informed approaches to curriculum design and delivery.

  • Demonstrated experience contributing to financial, governance, workload, quality and compliance processes within a university, preferably in a health discipline with clinical education, accreditation or placement requirements.

  • High-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior leaders, academic teams, clinical partners, professional bodies and external stakeholders to deliver agreed outcomes.

Qualifications:

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.

About the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences

The School of Health and Biomedical Sciences comprises three Academic areas:

  • Clinical Sciences

  • Health Sciences

  • Medical Sciences  

Primarily based at the RMIT Bundoora campus, we undertake teaching and research across the disciplines of: Biomedical Science, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiations, Nursing, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Chinese Medicine, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, Physiotherapy and Psychology.    

The School’s research was ranked as well above world standard in clinical science, complementary and alternative medicine, medical physiology, microbiology and pharmacology & pharmaceutical sciences, and above world standard in psychology, public health & health service and medical & health sciences. We have a strategic focus on chronic disease and integrative health care with globally distinctive research strengths in respiratory health, neuroinflammation, translational immunology and infection, cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, and cross-cutting themes of: Lifestyle Medicine, Digital Health, Indigenous Health, Ageing in Health & Disease, and Medical Devices, Diagnostics and Prognostics. Research and Learning and Teaching innovation within the School is supported by a world class simulated hospital, digital human anatomy facility, state-of-the-art equipment and fully equipped laboratories and medical radiations facilities as well as a significant number of national and international partners.
